The Only Sons - Steel Hearts

The album begins with "Lay Back Down." The intro features lap steel that is pure Bakersfield. After the intro, the song reminds me a lot of The Lost Trailers circa Welcome to the Woods. It is a good indicator of what is to come on the rest of the album.

With its raspy vocals and honest songs about loneliness and busted relationships, this band also reminds me of Drag the River. The Only Sons can get your toes tapping with tunes like "Loneliness is on My Side"

If you like roots rock that's a little gritty, this band is for you. With the lap steel, fiddle, and harmonica added to the mix, this is a roots rock fan's dream. The only problem is that the album at 34 minutes is too short. However, the band is looking out for you. Steel Hearts is available for download at the band's website (http://theonlysons.net). Do yourself a favor and download it. Don't cost nothin'.
