Corrupt Leaders - Grindmother EP

Corrupt Leaders' Grindmother EP is a 3 minute blast of skull-crushing ferocity. Where plenty of grindcore bands have been happy just to make short, quick pieces of noise, Corrupt Leaders show strong musicianship throughout the EP's four songs. Taking a cue from bands like Nasum and Napalm Death, the band offers catchy guitar riffs over mile-a-minute drumbeats that, unfortunately, end too soon.

That's the chief complaint about the music here. This is only the group's third EP, but one can imagine that like Nasum, Corrupt Leaders will eventually release an album of 22 or more super short songs that speed forth and then are gone. Since these songs are about 30 seconds long, they'd be a lot more substantial at double or triple that length - still short and to the point, but a bit more meat on the bones; something to grab onto.

Other than that, this is a great burst of energy that is worth listening to more than once. The best song on the EP, "Mass Consumed", closes the short set well with a thrashy riff that paves into a strong groove. There is definite promise to be seen on the Grindmother EP.
