Shallow Side - ONE

If you are a fan of college sports it would likely only take one listen of Shallow Side's "We Roll" before you could correctly guess where the band is from. If the song's reference to "bleeding crimson and white" isn't enough, the lyric "just like the tide, we roll" is a sure giveaway. The guys --- Eric Boatright on vocals, Cody Hampton on bass and guitar, Seth Trimble on guitar and keys and Heath Fields on drums --- are from Culman, Alabama and are clearly big fans of the nearby University of Alabama. "We Roll" isn't a fight song though; the band's comparison of themselves to the Crimson Tide is more a statement that Shallow Side consider themselves unstoppable. And if they keep up what they've got going on this six-song EP, that just might be the case. With cuts like the heavy-thumping, defiant "Rebel" and an incendiary take on the Styx chestnut "Renegade" in their arsenal, Shallow Side land firmly in the bastion of bands that have the goods to shut down the "rock is dead" naysayers. Shallow Side have a stated goal to do their part to revitalize rock 'n' roll and they're off to a really good start with this teaser EP where every song is built for mass radio airplay. Whether or not fans will be of a mindset to shout "roll damn tide" to this one doesn't matter too much, because for sure they'll be shouting. Fans can anticipate the release of a full-length LP from Shallow Side later this year.
