Collective
Soul Go It Alone |
Reuters reports: Collective Soul, famed for
such hit songs as "Shine" and "Gel," sold more than 7 million albums during
the '90s at Atlantic Records. But by mutual agreement, the group parted
ways with its label in 2000.
"To be honest, we were tired of not being
appreciated," Collective Soul vocalist Ed Roland says. "We escaped each
other . . . We almost went right in and got a deal, but we came up with
the bright idea, 'Let's do it ourselves."'
After a hiatus, Collective Soul, using
its own funds, recorded the album "Youth," which the band will issue Nov.

When
Love Attacks |
The Australian reports: RAGING US rocker Courtney
Love poured whiskey over a female musician, hurled the bottle at her head
and scarred her with her nails in a terrifying early morning attack, a
court was told today.
Musician Kristin King made the claim at
a hearing in Los Angeles at which the legally embattled Love was ordered
to stand trial on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon against King.
An "angry, vicious and erratic" Love laid
into King after finding her sleeping on the couch of Love's ex-boyfriend
Jim Barber in Los Angeles on April 25 this year, King told the judge.
After hearing the evidence, the judge ordered
that Love, who is free on $US150,000 ($200,000) bail, must stand trial
and told her to return to court on November 10 to be arraigned. [see full

KISS
Vs KISS |
Blabbermouth reports: Paul Stanley: "Gene
has the right to do whatever he chooses. Sometimes he likes to compare
me or KISS to a jealous girlfriend; it's probably to give the impression
that he's doing something that he's envied for. Most of Gene's outside
projects never amount to anything, so there's not a whole lot to be jealous
of. I don't think there's anything wrong with striking out when you get
up to bat, I just don't understand pointing to the bleachers every time
before you do. It makes me uncomfortable. For me it's like seeing a family
member do something that you find embarrassing for both of you. The truth
is strictly in terms of 'cash in pocket,' the most financially successful
and lucrative outside project was me doing 'Phantom', period.[see full

year that caused the band to cancel several European shows. An excerpt
from the interview follows:
Rockdetector.com: How is Victor now?
Peavy Wagner: "At first he was really close
to death, but he has recovered completely."
Rockdetector.com: He was in hospital for
a while, what were the operations for exactly?
Peavy Wagner: "His testicle was broken
up you know." [see full story for more]- Click

Canada
Denies Vehemence |
Blabbermouth reports: Due to circumstances
beyond their control, Arizona-based melodic death metallers VEHEMENCE were
unable to play their previously announced Toronto show at Club Rockit on
Wednesday, October 27. "Big disappointment for us, as this is our second
Toronto show we were unable to play," the band said in a statement. "Last
time our vocalist Nathan got really sick on tour and we had to cancel our
remaining dates. This time is more about the politics, lack of extra fee
notice, and how f***ing hard Canada makes it to get into their country
to just play a show. We are extremely sorry to any fans we might have let
down. [see full story for more]- Click

Glenn
Hughes Tour Off |
Blabbermouth reports: The previously announced
GLENN HUGHES/CHAD SMITH U.K. tour in December has been cancelled, according
to a posting at GHPG.net. "We will be rescheduling the dates for February
2005 as Glenn Hughes solo shows, before we undertake a long Glenn Hughes
European tour which will run until early April 2005," the posting continues.
"Unfortunately, Chad has had to pull out
due to the recording of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' new album running behind
schedule.
"Chad is absolutely devastated; he did
everything he could to make this tour happen, as well as trying every option
available so that we would avoid having to cancel. Sadly, the fact remains
that his schedule just does not allow us the opportunity to do the tour
with him.
"Glenn, however, will tour the U.K. in
February 2005...[see full story for more]- Click

Exhumed
See Double DVD |
Exhumed.us reports: Well, in the spirit of
all things Exhumed, the band's optimism has outstripped their productivity.
The Exhumed boys are still in the middle of the process of compiling archival
footage for the DVD. The good news is that the project has been expanded
to be a double DVD. Disc one will feature live clips from throughout the
band's history, as well as interview footage with members past and present.
The second disc will feature full live sets, to be recorded in Los Angeles
and Europe during the first half of 2005...
In the meantime, lacking a DVD release,
another project is taking shape. Having long been a thought in the back
of the band's collective heads, Exhumed is readying a full-length album
of cover songs. The working title of the album is at this time: Regurgitated
Requiems: Garbage Daze Re-Regurgitated. [see full story for more]-

Smart Bands |
Reuters reports: By one measure of their success,
chart-topping rockers The Darkness have sold enough song downloads, T-shirts
and thongs on their official Web site http://www.TheDarknessRock.com to
nearly finance their next recording.
British rock band Marillion has gone a
step further. Since striking off on its own in 2000, the band has used
its online site, http://marillion.com, to raise over 500,000 pounds ($913,200)
from fans to finance its last two albums and support its first North American
tour since 1995.
"The Internet is our savior. Without it,
we wouldn't be what we are today. It's really turned the business around,"
said Lucy Jordache, the band's marketing manager.
In what is believed to be a Web first,
Marillion has twice raised the money needed to record a studio album by
convincing devoted fans to buy the album up front -- in both cases shelling
out money a year before they could hear it. [see full story for more]-

To Honor Peel |
Ananova reports: Glastonbury Festival's new
bands tent will be renamed the John Peel Stage in tribute to the veteran
BBC Radio 1 DJ, who died yesterday aged 65.
"It's very appropriate because it's all
the sort of music that John would have chosen," Glastonbury founder Michael
Eavis said.
Eavis recalled Peel's huge influence on
the festival, attributing The Smiths' landmark 1984 performance to the
DJ. "He chose a band and he made it succeed," said Eavis reports BBC online.

Du Reunite For Karl |
Star Tribune reports: Any number of Soul Asylum
songs could have described Thursday's historic Rock for Karl concert at
the Quest nightclub in Minneapolis, which benefited the band's cancer-survivor
bassist Karl Mueller.
"Never Really Been" would fit the unprecedented
lineup of Twin Cities rock luminaries.
"Runaway Train" might have summed up some
of the musical free-for-alls onstage. Best of all, "Sometime to Return"
suited the show's reunion vibe, which included the first onstage pairing
of Bob Mould and Grant Hart since their influential trio Hüsker Dü
broke up 16 years ago.
The 5½-hour show was a who's-who
lineup of the celebrated local scene of the 1980s and early '90s when the
Twin Cities was ground zero for indie rock. All the stars showed up for
the sold-out fundraiser: ex-Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg, a reunited
Gear Daddies, a makeshift lineup of Golden Smog, plus the ever-resilient
Soul Asylum. [see full story for more]- Click
