Label Head Hypocrisy
Wired reports: On the last day of the recent Reuters Media and Marketing Summit in New York, Warner Music Group CEO admitted that he was "fairly certain" that one or more of his seven children had downloaded music without the permission of the copyright owner, which Reuters referred to as stealing.

Despite the alleged infringers' proximity to the major label head and his direct awareness of it without the use of ISP subpoenas, somehow no lawsuits were deemed necessary... [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Lohan Gore Bore
TMZ reports: Former Veep Al Gore seems to take issue with reports that he'll help Lindsay Lohan fight the media and clean up her image. The New York Post reported Lohan's proclamation, "Al Gore will help me. He came up to me last night and said he would be very happy to have a conversation with me."

According to Page Six, Lohan sent an e-mail to her friends and lawyers after a GQ magazine party, claiming Gore would come to her aid. TMZ contacted Gore's P.R. rep today who said, "I can confirm for you that Mr. Gore has only met Ms. Lohan once, very briefly, at the GQ Men of the Year dinner last week. There were hundreds of other guests." Not exactly what La Lohan told her buds.[see full story for more... maybe Clinton will offer her an intern position?]- Click Here for the Full Story

Ministry Comment on Grammy Nom
PR reports: Megaforce Records is proud to announce that Ministry has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song "Lies Lies Lies." Al Jourgensen is hard at work in the studio, but had this little quip to say, "Getting nominated for a Grammy is like getting the big, fat, wet kiss from your wrinkly old Aunt at Thanksgiving or Christmas. You appreciate the sentiment, but it's not something I'd wanna have sex with." This is the fourth Grammy nomination for Jourgensen and Ministry, who were also nominated in 1993 and won the Grammy in 2000, and were recently nominated for "The Great Satan" last year.- Click Here for the Full Story

Slayer Grammy & Tour
HER reports: Slayer's been saying it all along - the war in Iraq is irresponsible lunacy - and while NARAS members may or may not agree with that particular opinion, enough of them agree that the band's "Eyes of the Insane," from their most recent album "Christ Illusion," made enough of a statement to single it out with a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Metal Performance. This is Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track "Disciple" (from "God Hates Us All"), also in the Best Metal Performance category.

Slayer will hit the road beginning January 24 on a five-week headline tour of North America. Dates are below.

Songwriters Vs RIAA
CMJ reports: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Recording Industry Association Of America is lobbying to reduce rates on royalties paid to songwriters. Citing general music industry change, RIAA Executive Vice President and General Council Steven Marks told the Reporter that they're hoping to ensure that "record companies can continue to create the sound recordings that drive revenues for music publishers."

To defend their members' income, three songwriting and publishing organizations 'National Music Publishers' Association, Inc., the Songwriters Guild Of America and the Nashville Songwriters Association International submitted a case to the Library Of Congress's Copyright Royalty Judges. In a letter to his organization's members, NMPA President and CEO David Israelite said, "This rate proceeding may be the most significant event for music publishers and songwriters in a generation. Mechanical rights comprise a significant part of the income stream for our industry. The NMPA is battling for rates that accurately reflect your contribution to the world of music. We are fighting on your behalf for fair compensation for your hard work." Whether increased or decreased, the Copyright Royalty Judges will introduce a new statutory rate effective January 1, 2008.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
