Band Vs RIAA
PR reports: From paganism to socialism to the remembrance of labor unrest and riots, May Day is many things to many people. To San Diego indie rockers, Truckee Brothers, May Day is a call to arms to save internet radio and protect independent artists' rights.

On May 1st, Truckee Brothers are giving away their single, "Mayday," to Internet radio stations and Podcasts free of charge. This act of rock philanthropy will circumvent the US Government's royalty hike that covers all music except for direct deals with copyright holders. The rate hike aims to put Internet radio out of business by charging more in royalties than ad revenue could legitimately cover. "Mayday" will be available exclusively online as it is illegal to repeatedly use the term "mayday" on terrestrial radio. The song will be available as a free download for one day only via the Truckee Brothers' website. The band is unveiling their revved-up and revamped website at truckeebrothers.com on the same day, so it will be an excellent opportunity to visit their website and check out this larger than life rock group in the digital flesh.

PR reports: Record Collection will release the original soundtrack to SPIDER-MAN 3, one of the most anticipated album and film events of the summer. Featuring all new, exclusive music, the album is scheduled for release on May 1, 2007, and is already garnering huge attention due in part to tremendous radio visibility from the first single "Signal Fire," by Glasgow-based stars SNOW PATROL.

A Limited Edition Soundtrack package will also be available and will contain a 32-page embossed hard-cover book featuring stills from the movie and 5 collectable movie cards housed inside a 8"x8" box made from a replica of the rubberized Spider-Man suit. Oliver Future Sets July Release
PR reports: With the long-playing album succumbing to today's single song downloadable world, Oliver Future's PAX FUTURA, due July 10, 2007 on Fireproof Recordings, is refreshingly anachronistic. Filled with mini-suites and recurring themes, Oliver Future and acclaimed producer Adam Lasus have created an album in the biggest sense of the word.
From the first winsome notes of opener "The Many Things I Am Aware Of" to the manic closer "The Slow Fast," the record brims with intensity and highlights the band's impressive range. Songs fade into each other like scenes from a film as frontman Noah Lit muses on topics such as the apocalypse, politics, failed romance and natural disaster. Kelly Clarkson Defends Simon
Extra/Submitted reports: "Extra" caught up with Kelly Clarkson at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards. Clarkson weighed in on Simon Cowell's "eye-raising" incident. The American Idol backs Cowell 100%, she says, "Simon's blunt, but he's not disrespectful. He's blunt and he says what he wants, but he would never do anything like that."

Clarkson has recently been romantically linked to Dale Earnhardt Jr. About a budding romance, she claimed, "I've met him once and it was like for five minutes at a race. He's really nice, but we don't know each other." [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Punk Rock Dad
PR reports: Jim shares his stories about raising three daughters while trying to maintain his inner adolescent in his new book "PUNK ROCK DAD". While other dads dye their hair to cover the gray, Jim occasionally dyes his blue or green. He makes his daughters' lunches, kisses their boo-boos, and tucks them in at nightand then goes into the garage and plays Black Flag and Minor Threat songs at criminal volume. He pays his taxes, votes in all the presidential and gubernatorial elections, serves on jury duty, and reserves the right to believe that there is a vast Right Wing Conspiracyand that the head of the P.T.A is possibly in on it!

Through his book published by Harper Collins, Jim details his hilarious experiences as a punk rocker and a respected father of three little girls with stories that will literally have you laughing out loud. Nothing is sacred in "Punk Rock Dad" as Jim lays out everything from tour, partying and crazed fans to the skills it takes to change a diaper and of course his unique take on childhood stories like Cinderella with great quotes such as "well, she was on crack" referring to his answer for why Cinderella couldn't buy a dress for the ball. Guards of Metropolis Set Release
PR reports: Two girls from Norway's Artic Circle, two guys from sunny California - GUARDS OF METROPOLIS - have combined influences from the laid-back northern reaches of Scandinavia with America's frantic west coast for their stunning debut album, "Alligator," out August 14 (Slackertone).

Produced by guitarist Charles Normal late last year primarily in the band's adopted hometown of Portland, OR, "Alligator" is a fistful of driven rock and roll riffs tempered by the layered harmonies that Scandinavian groups are famous for. Vocalist Kristin Blix's lyrics filter the American experience through a foreigner's eyes, from the vacuous hangers-on the band encountered while recording their demos in Hollywood, to such U.S. cultural "icons" as Jerry Springer and Molly Hatchet. Musically, think Garbage, Elastica, ABBA meets AC/DC.

Guards of Metropolis will hit the road in August in support of "Alligator." Tour dates will be announced shortly.- Click Here for the Full Story

The Virginia Tech Shootings: A Realistic View of the Murders, Security and the Media
Editorial by Chris A reports: Chris A., the author of "A Vulgar Display Of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa" shares his experience on the events surrounding the VA Tech tragedy. He is a former USAF Security Policeman. His new book details the carnage wrought by a mentally ill gunman and tells the inspiring story of heroism and courage in response to the killer. Chris has a bachelors degree in criminal justice in addition to a dual-masters degree in human resources development and public administration. His criminal justice background includes the area of crime prevention and anti-terrorism.
The Virginia Tech Shootings: A Realistic View of the Murders, Security and the Media

The tragic murders at Virginia Tech clearly bring to the forefront two very important societal lessons. First, that security is designed to address and confront the expected and anticipated. Security is for the most part, a reactive posture, that's simply how it is in a free society. Law enforcers respond to robberies, thefts, parking violations. We as a society and as individuals take proactive steps to protect lives and property from what can reasonably be anticipated. A mentally ill madman determined to slaughter people isn't something anticipated. In fact, despite what some mainstream media outlets will tell you, it is an exceptionally rare happening. That brings us to our second lesson which is perhaps more disturbing. Our nation is plagued with an over-reactive entertainment-oriented media devoid of any true sense of responsibility.

Before the bodies of the students killed that horrific Monday morning were even cold, media pundits immediately started the blame game. Rather than reporting accurate confirmed "news" about the incident in an effort to keep the public informed, the media opted to "create" news. While law enforcement was still in its response phase, the media was gearing up to sensationalize and expound on any facet of information revealed, regardless of its accuracy. Armed only with conjecture and opinion, before even the number of people killed was revealed, so-called "professional journalists" demanded answers to incredibly unreasonable questions[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
