Ludo Score Hit and Make More Road Plans
Island reports: It's an Olympian feat that only the greatest post-modern indie bands can lay claim to: their first single to crack the Top 10 on a national chart. So break out the bubbly stuff for Island Records group Ludo, as they sail to #10-bullet on the R&R/BDS Alternative chart with "Love Me Dead." It's the first bonafide smash from their major label album debut, You're Awful, I Love You, whose nutty cover artwork (by band member Marshall Fanciullo) will be seen on 333,000 cans of Arizona iced tea.

With an alternative radio audience of 3.5 million (and a Hot 100 airplay audience of 4 million backed up by digital sales of more than 72,000 copies "Love Me Dead" enters its 22nd week on the street determined to win all the chips. Ludo just wrapped up the three week Warped Tour '08 schedule that brought them to 22 North American cities since July 23rd. Four More Reasons NOT To Watch the MTV Video Music Awards
antiMusic reports: We love overly enthusiastic press releases that promise the world in the subject heading and deliver... say Fresno instead. We received one today with the heading "MTV WILL REDEFINE LIVE PERFORMANCES," and wondered what all the excitement was about. Could they be featuring actual live performances? (A rarity in the age of Britney and Ashlee.) Could they be featuring some real live musicians? (A even bigger rariety on the MTV airwaves.) Could they... you can ask all day long and build up your excitement with the possibilities but then be majorly let down when they "redefine" live performances with the likes of Rihanna, Pink, T.I. and Paramore. Yeah, you're running to program your TiVo right now! Here is the major announcement:

MTV is breaking down the walls and giving fans an all access pass to the world's most explosive musical showcase EVER as Rihanna, Pink, T.I. and Paramore have been confirmed to perform at the "2008 Video Music Awards." For the first time on live television, multi-platinum songstress, Rihanna will perform her hit single "Disturbia" and self proclaimed King of the South, T.I. will perform a new single off his upcoming album Paper Trail.

Pink will prove that the impossible is plausible as she gives a fiery performance of her new single, "Say What," off her highly anticipated album Funhouse. Fans will not believe their eyes as punk-pop band, Paramore, perform their raw and energetic single "Misery Business" from their sophomore album RIOT!. - more on this story

Otis Redding Live in London and Paris
conqueroo reports: Otis Redding was at the peak of his stardom in March, 1967 when he crossed the Atlantic to perform for his growing European fan base. As part of the traveling Stax/Volt Revue that is credited with spreading the sound of Memphis across the world, Redding played two exemplary shows in London and Paris. These performances have been combined to form the 19-song Otis Redding Live in London and Paris, set for release September 23, 2008 on the reactivated Stax Records through Concord Music Group.

Backing Redding was Stax's own in-house all-star band: Booker T. & the MGs (Booker T. Jones, keyboards; Steve Cropper, guitar; Duck Dunn, bass; and Al Jackson, drums) plus the Mar-Keys (Wayne Jackson, trumpet; Andrew Love, tenor saxophone; and Joe Arnold, tenor saxophone). Legendary producer Tom Dowd supervised the recording both at Finsbury Park Astoria in London on March 17, 1967 and at the Olympia Theatre in Paris on March 21, 1967. Bill Belmont produced the reissue.

Although some of the songs have appeared as part of the Ace Records 1,000 Volts series and the long out of print Stax Volt in Europe, Vol. 3, the new Stax collection is the first to present the songs in the order they were played onstage in 1967. The set was mixed from the original multi-track tapes by Stephen A. Hart at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.

XX Teens Press Release A Few Days Late But Not A Quote Short
PR reports: With their debut album "Welcome To Goon Island" hitting US stores and digital download sites September 30th, XX Teens will release the "Darlin'" EP digitally August 19, 2008.

The EP features the album mix, a remix and dub mix from Andrew Weatherall and the "Darlin' Druzzi's Remix by Ben Trucker."

Already released in the UK, "Darlin" has met with considerable critical acclaim including a selection as one of the NME's Top Tracks of 2007; calling it "A berserk swamp-rock thriller scary and brilliant."

[At least they didn't call it a "roller-coaster thrill ride" and their publicist didn't use a predicable and vastly overused Pitchfork quote that some publicist seem to be addicted to (if they had, our spam filter would have prevented us from ever reading it). - Go to their Myspace and hear them for yourself to see if they are any good. ]

Deicide Axe Temping With Order of Ennead
PR reports: Order Of Ennead has tapped Deicide's, Jack Owen to fill in for guitarist, John Li for the ONE NIGHT ONLY show in Florida this September featuring Deicide, Order Of Ennead and Adrift. Li will not be able to play the show due to unavoidable, longstanding commitments.

Owen, who also plays in the hard rock outfit, Adrift, will be pulling triple duty at this show, playing for all 3 bands on the bill. Despite having the large task of playing for 3 bands in one night in front of him, that fact does not seem to be phasing him. According to Order Of Ennead vocalist/guitarist, Kevin Quirion, Owen is handling the band's material very well. "We had our first practice with him (Jack) and it went well. John (Li) was even there helping out."

Jack Owen will not be the only one playing for multiple bands that night. Deicide bandmate and Order Of Ennead drummer, Steve Asheim will be will be pulling double duty on this show, playing two full sets with both bands. "Double duty for me - it shouldn't be too bad;" says the frantic drummer, Asheim. "I usually run through a couple sets a night at practice, so i'm ready for anything." Asheim, like Owen is no stranger to playing at high intensities for long stretches of time is looking forward to the challenge of playing for both bands in a live setting. He even offers fans a tip for when they may be in the position of doing the same thing on their own. "You just gotta stay hydrated - water, gatorade, that type of thing." - more on this story
