Rockstar Rejects Metallica Offer
(Gibson) You'd have to be delusional to turn down a gig opening for the biggest metal band on the planet, Metallica, right? The Times of India is reporting that Metallica were in talks with several Bollywood production houses to serve as the opening act for their upcoming, first-ever shows in India, only to get turned down by Ranbir Kapoor's, Rockstar, which features music by A.R. Rahman.

The producers of Rockstar apparently turned down the offer because the score for the film is mainly "Sufi rock," which they thought would be impossible to place next to the metal giants. Just a small technically, don't you think?

Metallica bass slinger Robert Trujillo recently talked about the group's plans to play India in an interview with the Inland Empire Weekly magazine. "We are going to play India in October," he said. "That should be interesting, playing a place we never thought in our wildest dreams we'd [go] to play. It's an honor for all of us that we get to be a part of that whole music scene as a metal band sharing our music with fans in India at this incredible concert!" more on this story

Avenged Sevenfold Foiled By Hurricane
(Rock News Desk) Festival bosses are taking weather warnings more seriously after the recent spate of storm-fuelled stage collapses which killed a dozen people and injured hundreds. Five lost their lives at Belgium's Pukkelpop last weekend and there have been significant collapses at Ottawa and Tulsa during the summer.

Now organisers of the Uproar Festival set to take place in Mansfield, Massachusetts on Sunday has been rescheduled to the following Tuesday as Hurricane Irene threatens to storm the area over the weekend.

The bill includes Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine and Escape the Fate. A7X frontman M Shadows says: "Safety first. We don't want any of our fans to get hurt. We decided to move the show from Sunday to Tuesday so all you crazy f**ks can make it and stay safe." more on this story

I've got to go to work. I've got my day job to go to," The drummer says. "But only for a little bit I'll be back. Singled Out: Blue October
Blue October scored their highest chart debut this week with their top 10 album, "Any Man In America." To celebrate we asked frontman Justin Furstenfield tells us about a couple of songs from the very personal album. Here are the stories:

The Chills: "These are the chills that piss you off, because they're more like feeling that you're being controlled by another person. This is the type of feeling that gives you these chills. Yet you still keep falling for it, again and again and again. And that falling for it perpetuates these chills.

They can be a good thing in a healthy relationship. But in an unhealthy relationship when there is a child involved, those chills are not good news and never really go away. Except now, those chills would come from my daughter looking at us both and saying 'Why can't we just all be together?' Those are the f**kin' chills I'm talking about."

The Follow Through: ""The Follow Through" is the last song on the album and it's meant to convey hope for the future. Hope has to be there; I mean, there's a baby involved. It's basically, 'Look, let's lay down our bullsh*t and move on. We've got to move on and be stronger. Let's stop fighting. Please.' It's the happy ending that every parent wishes for upon getting a divorce. It's divorce's happy ending.

Now put that happy ending in the mix with conniving lawyers, brutal lies, and constant threats and you have yourself trapped with a serial accuser. It is a fact that a serial accuser will do anything in their power for the sake of control - which in my case is to keep me away from our child. The one thing I've learned the most is when a mother loses her child, she is sorrowful, sympathetic, and sad. When a father loses his child he instantly wants to fight and do anything in his power to get them back. Now take those two personalities to court and put a muzzle on the guy and you have my situation."

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

Evanescence's Amy Lee Talks Seizures
(Gibson) Evanescence singer Amy Lee is busy prepping for the band's forthcoming, self-titled album (out October 11), but she's also spending chunks of time promoting epilepsy awareness. Lee's brother, Robby, experienced his first seizure when he was 8 years old, so the cause is dear to Lee. "People don't know what to do when someone's having a seizure," Lee told Samaritanmag, while in Toronto promoting the new album.

"People freak out if someone is having a seizure. They think there's something wrong with them or they're on drugs or demon-possessed," she added. "I think, especially in young people, we have enough against us to make us feel awkward and different that things like that we should be able to understand because it's totally not that weird. We all have our little differences and quirks about us. And I want to spread awareness. It's really common."

The Epilepsy Foundation states epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. If someone has a seizure, how should passersby respond? " You don't put a wallet in their mouth; don't put anything in their mouth; that's this big weird stupid thing they're not going to swallow their tongue! That's physically impossible," Lee said. "You just want to make sure they're not going to hit their head and give them some space and let them breathe, and just let them get through it. That's it, and just don't freak out. That's part of it, too. It's normal. It's [going to] pass in a second. Call an ambulance if they need an ambulance." more on this story

Gibson Stands Up To Big Brother
(Rock News Desk) The Gibson Guitar Corporation has lashed back at authorities after their offices were raided by federal agents for the second time in two years this week. And they've accused the US Justice Department of bullying the firm without filing any charges.

Investigations are continuing into allegations Gibson have been using illegal wood in the manufacture of their instruments. But chief exec Henry Juszkiewicz claims the only question-mark over their operations has been created by US officials choosing to misinterpret the law of India.

"The Department of Justice has suggested the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal," He says. "Not because of US law, but because of the Justice Department's interpretation of a law in India. If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal. This action was taking without the support and consent of the government of India.

"So our government says wood is illegal if US workers produce it. They are bullying us without filing charges." more on this story

The Day Blur Topped Oasis
(Gibson) On this day in 1995, Blur scored their first U.K. #1 single with "Country House" and won a media battle with Oasis for the #1 position. Both acts released their new singles on the same day. "Country House" topped the chart, selling 270,000 copies, compared to 220,000 sold by "Roll with It," seeing Oasis entering the chart at #2. Gibson looks back: Over the course of a year, the stage had been set for a royal rumble. After initially praising one another, Britpop's two biggest bands had begun to antagonize each other in the press.

In one corner there was Blur, a London foursome who had met while studying at Goldsmiths College. They already had three albums under their belt, including 1994's blockbuster Parklife, and were known for being artsy and working in a variety of musical styles.

In the other corner was Oasis, a Manchester rock band led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. They had achieved huge success in Britain, where their album Definitely Maybe because the fastest-selling debut release in U.K. chart history, and made a reputation of celebrating the hedonistic tendencies of rock and roll. more on this story
