Weiland has a long history of entanglements with the legal system over substance abuse. Last August he was sentenced to three years probation by a California judge for a May 2003 arrest for possession of heroin and cocaine. Part of his probation was mandatory drug counseling. Last January he was ordered by the court to check in to a rehab after going AWOL from the center.
In April, a judge gave Weiland permission to tour with Velvet Revolver. The band which features Guns N Roses alums Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum hit the top of the charts with their debut album Contraband.
