Sinclair started sending Gibson letters in July of 2004 telling the actor/director that he had been sent to Los Angeles by God to help strengthen Gibson's faith by praying with him.
Things soon went beyond letters when Sinclair landed on Gibson's Malibu, California doorstep and showed up at Gibson's church, while the actor was inside attending mass.
Sinclair sent Gibson a total of 12 letters. He admitted to Gibson that he had spent more than 2 years in prison for stalking a woman and also had spent time in a mental hospital.
The transient was arrested in October and charged with violating a restraining order to stay away from Gibson.
Gibson testified at the trial and told jurors that he feared for the safety of his wife and children. "I realized we were probably dealing with somebody who was fairly deluded," Gibson testified from the stand on Thursday.
The felony stalking charge could put Sinclair
behind bars for 16 months to 3 years.
