These special, limited-edition CD booklets are another in a long line of events and promotions AFI organizes to show their appreciation for their fans, as well as to continue their long-standing reciprocal relationship. AFI has established a renowned and rabid fanbase by relentlessly touring since the band formed in 1991 in Ukiah, CA. The band works hard to maintain and expand on their intense relationship with their fanclub, The Despair Faction. Such efforts include offering exclusive advance ticket and merch pre-sales to club members, opening band soundchecks for fanclub attendance, and even bringing in Despair Faction members to provide backing vocals on AFI's current first single off DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, "Miss Murder." "They're not really a fan club per se," says Jade Puget, AFI guitarist. "The Despair Faction was conceived to be more interactive than that, to have more of a direct connection with us and with each other."
AFI's seventh album DECEMBERUNDERGROUND will be released June 6th by Interscope. More than a year in the making, DECEMBERUNDERGROUND (the follow-up to AFI's 2003 platinum-selling release Sing the Sorrow) marks more bold, forward-thinking movements by the band to keep their songwriting and sound both fresh and new. Collaborating again with producer Jerry Finn, DECEMBERUNDERGROUND sets the stage to break the band out of any preconceived genres and boundaries, instantaneously apparent from the searing second track "Kill Caustic" to "Summer Shudder" - "the emo anthem of the season" (TIME OUT NEW YORK) - to the epic final ballad, "Endlessly, She Said."
