Meet the Artists:
GOLDFRAPP: Sex, subversion, style, humor, songs: great pop music's greatest components. Goldfrapp have always known it, since their Mercury Music Prize-nominated 2000 debut Felt Mountain. Through pioneering electronics, crystalline vocals, visual theatrics and glam-sex decadence, they've moved through the ambient shadows into the technicolor thrill that is the hallmark of classic British pop music. Goldfrapp's new album Supernature, already a smash hit in Europe, is out now on Mute Records.
RICHARD HAWLEY: Having recently released his third solo LP Coles Corner in September 2005 on Mute Records, the album came in at #10 in Mojo's Top-50 Albums of 2005 and was hailed by NME for its "songs of overwhelming beauty." Other activities in the past year have included producing songs for Nancy Sinatra, who invited him on her UK and European tour in 2005, gigging with his rockabilly band The Feral Cats, and a series of high-profile shows with R.E.M.
JOSE GONZALEZ: From Sweden, but of Argentinean descent, Jose Gonzalez' story is rare in modern pop - a heartening case of the artist resisting the vicissitudes of musical fashion to carve out a unique, intimate style that is all his own. Gonzalez relies simply on his own eloquent classical guitar playing and a voice that marries assuredness with poignant delicacy. His songs (sung in perfect English) are intimate and timeless; his presence is powerful and fragile at the same time. Recently signed to Mute Records, the label is re-releasing Gonzalez' lauded debut album Veneer, April 4, 2006.
