From their debut on Sorry, Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash as a ragged hardcore outfit through the ragged glory of Let It Be and the heartfelt rock of Tim and Pleased To Meet Me to the intimacy of All Shook Down, The Replacements embodied rock n roll and crafted some of the best music of the 80s along the way. Rockers like Kids Dont Follow, I Will Dare, Bastards Of Young, and Cant Hardly Wait sound as fresh today as they did when first released, and soul-laid-bare songs like Here Comes A Regular and Unsatisfied pack the same emotional wallop twenty-some years later.
THE BEST OF THE REPLACEMENTS includes tracks from every one of the bands seven albums as well as the Stink EP, making it an essential introduction for new listeners, while the new songs make it a must-have for the bands longtime fans. This 20-track compilation makes an undeniable case for The Replacements inclusion in the rock pantheon.
Perhaps the most exiting news about THE BEST OF THE REPLACEMENTS is the inclusion of the first new recordings by the band in 16 years. Fans will be delighted with these two slabs of vintage-sounding Matssongs that could easily have come off of Tim or Pleased To Meet Me. Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson reunited last December to record the tunes (Message To The Boys and Pool & Dive) that Westerberg wrote specifically for inclusion on this compilation. Chris Mars sang backing vocals and Josh Freese played drums.
