Read on to hear Sweet's reflections on the sessions that captured the band's harmony-laden pop-folk-rock, indelible songs and shimmering, sunny harmonies on their Verve Forecast debut.
"It's not the easiest thing to capture bouncing off the walls on tape, but luckily those bridges know how to put their noses to the grindstone! They really all work together for the good of the whole. A true band."
Though Matthew (as many do) found the young Alabamans sweet, adorable and charmingly eager, mostly he was blown away by the quality of the songwriting! Wonderful melodies, amazing lyrics. Not to mention those lovely sister harmonies, and the unique rhythm section and piano based sound. They kind of reminded me of a young family-based Fleetwood Mac in spirit.
"The bridges sense of humor and positive outlook only made things that much easier. The record really made itself in a way. We had a lot of fun! I didn't over think my role. In the case of the bridges, part of what I loved, as a fan mind you, was their own sound, which was interesting and quirky and natural. I just wanted to capture how great they were! "
Matthew Sweet's masterful long-player 'Sunshine Lies' will be released late this summer on Shout! Factory/Sony/BMG.
