Beyonce will perform her current single "Sweet Dreams" off her multi-platinum album I Am� Sasha Fierce. Beyonce, whose "Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It)" received nine nominations including "Video of the Year" and "Best Female Video," will join a line-up of performers including Lady Gaga, Green Day, P!nk, Taylor Swift and Muse.
In addition, MTV has tapped hip-hop's newest challenger, Wale and the legendary go go band UCB as the official VMAs house band, providing this year's audience with what is sure to be some of the night's most exciting and unexpected moments. The DC native, whose debut album "Attention Deficit" is being released on October 20, will collaborate with artists including The All-American Rejects, Pitbull and 3OH!3 to put his own unique spin on some of the biggest songs of the year, including his hit single "Chillin'" featuring Lady Gaga, his own material and a few classic covers.
Also on September 13, MTV.com will exclusively unveil "Meet Me On the Equinox," the lead single off of the New Moon Soundtrack (available October 20, 2009) from VMA nominees Death Cab for Cutie. As previously announced, comedian Russell Brand will host the show, and Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Miranda Cosgrove are confirmed presenters. The show will air with Spanish subtitles on MTV Tr3́s on Sunday, September 20 at 5pm ET. MTV will announce additional performers and presenters on a later date.
