The Guitar Gala features approximately 20 guitars (donated by the Gibson Foundation), each designed and customized by local and nationally recognized artists including, George Lucas, Devo, Seth Green of Robot Chicken, Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, Les Claypool of Primus, Jack Haye, Chris Clark (of Motown fame), Michael Garlington, Chris Jehly, Anna Oneglia, Lia May-Bird, Ricky Watts, Jared Powell, Josh Staples of the New Trust, and Jason Jenkins.
The guitars are scheduled to be hung in local Petaluma business locations during the final weeks of Janurary. They will remain on display until the Guitar Gala. On February 7 from 4-8 p.m. event organizers, in collaboration with the Petaluma Downtown Association, present a guitar walk through Historic Downtown Petaluma to visit each location where a customized guitar is on display. Some of the artists are slated to appear at the Gala, scheduled to take place Sat. Feb.28, which will also feature a live Internet auction, a cocktail party, and a silent auction featuring artist memorabilia. Check out the details at http://www.phoenixguitargala.com/
Proceeds from the Guitar support the free-of-charge after-school music, theater and arts programs for at-risk youth of the North Bay as well as help preserve the historic Phoenix Theater, which has served as an important performing arts venue for more than 100 years and hosted a diverse group of artists ranging from Enrico Caruso to Louis Armstrong, from Carlos Santana, Sublime, and Metallica to Green Day and Hilary Duff.
