Blood Orange Loses Everything in Tragic Fire

. (Radio.com) After paying his dues for years, Blood Orange (AKA Dev Hynes) has had a tremendous impact on popular music over the past year or so. Helping make the likes of Solange and Sky Ferreira into bona fide contenders with his stellar songwriting abilities ("Losing You" and "Everything is Embarrassing," respectively), he hit pay dirt with the release of Cupid Deluxe, the second full-length under the Blood Orange moniker that's generated waves of critical accolades.

Hynes' awesome year took a horrific turn for the tragic this week (Dec. 16), however, with the artist losing everything (including his puppy, Cupid) in a massive New York apartment fire. He announced the heartbreaking news with a series of Tweets, ending with the statement, "I might need some time. Thanks."

While word of the tragedy quickly spread, SPIN reports that Robin Urbani, the mother of Hynes' girlfriend Samantha Urbani (a member of NYC band Friends) has started a GoFundMe account to raise money for the artist, and fans have responded in a way that's nothing less than a holiday miracle.

After being live for a mere five hours, at press time the GoFundMe page had already raised an impressive $11,305, far surpassing the original goal of $5000. more on this story
