Courtney Love's Second Twitter Lawsuit Will Going to Trial

(Radio.com) Courtney Love is learning this lesson the hard way. On Friday, (December 20) a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled that her defamation lawsuit against her ex-attorney Rhonda Holmes will proceed.

The case involves Twitter, specifically tweets that Love wrote in June of 2010 where she accused Holmes of being "bought off." "I was f***ing devestated when Rhonda J Holmes esq of San Diego was bought off. I've been hiring and firing lawyers to help me with this," Love tweeted from her account.

Holmes and her law firm sued Love for libel, but Love's lawyers argue that hyperbole and sensational language is standard for social media that things written on Twitter shouldn't be held to the same standard as other information.

Holmes' reps argued that character assassination is character assassination, however it is transmitted. And since many "subscribe" to Love's Twitter feed just as they subscribe to newspapers, their legal dispute is valid.

Judge Michael Johnson agreed with Holmes' reps. "Ms. Love has a big following and they all hang on everything she does and says and Tweets," he said. more on this story
