Katy Perry Helps To House Homeless Veterans
. The group works with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to house homeless veterans and so far have succeeded in housing 400 veterans in six states. Perry and the Veterans Matter will help fund housing deposits for 17 homeless veterans in Austin, Texas, and five in Detroit through an auction of a Katy Perry Prizmatic Tour concert package which was won by Scott Vaughn of Oakton, VA who became Perry's VIP guest at her recent show in Cleveland and met the popstar backstage before the concert. "Thank you so much for helping Veterans Matter, it is so important that we help those who fought for our freedom," Perry told Vaughn when she met him at the show. He says of the experience: "It was an incredible night. "When you meet Katy in person you see how nice, caring, and also how funny she truly is. With so many great causes that she supports, we are thankful that she also took the time and the interest, to help our homeless veterans." We were sent these details about the organization: Veterans Matter, a program of 1Matters, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit with roots back to 1990, was started by founder Ken Leslie in 2012, after he learned that the biggest obstacle facing some 60,000 homeless veterans eligible for permanent housing assistance is the lack of a rental deposit, a component that is not covered by the HUD-VASH voucher assistance program.
