Arthur Barens, an attorney for Knight told reporters that some of the locations searched were either past or present residences of the rap mogul. However, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department told the press that Knight is not a suspect.
Details about which murders are being investigated have not been forthcoming from the sheriffs department. A spokesman for the LA County Sheriff's Department said that theyre "seeking additional evidence in several homicides and a conspiracy to commit murder investigation."
Authorities reportedly made several arrests in connections with todays raids, but have refused to release the identities of any of the suspects. "The kinds of people that we have warrants for are wanted for very serious crimes," sheriff's deputy Darren Harris told the press.
When asked if these raids were linked to investigations into the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, the spokesperson refused to answer. However, there has also been some speculation on the part of the press that one of the cases under investigation may involve the murder of Jam Master Jay.
Knights attorney was upset with how the
raid was carried out on the offices of his client, according to Billboard
Online that reported the following; Barens said law enforcement officials
damaged the record label office when they stormed the building. Sheriff's
deputies, including a SWAT team, surrounded the building that houses Tha
Row Records at about 5 a.m. Until I have some reason to believe there
was legitimacy to this, I consider this heavy-handed harassment, Barens
said.
