Not surprisingly, Black Sabbath is once again on the ballot and with the legendary metal pioneers original lead vocalist, Ozzy Osbourne, experiencing unprecedented mainstream fame as a result of his hit MTV show, The Osbournes, its a pretty good bet that the folks behind the (c)rock hall will at last induct the band that is credited with giving birth to Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath has been nominated for induction six times.
Other names on the final ballot this go around include The Police, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, the Patti Smith Group and ABBA.
The Police and the Attractions appear on the ballot for the first time along with Chic. Bands that have been nominated yet passed over in the past include AC/DC (nominated 3 times), Lynyrd Skynyrd (nominated 4 times), The Sex Pistols (nominated 2 times) and the Dells (nominated 2 times).
Also on the ballot this year, The Clash, Kraftwork, The Righteous Brothers, Steve Winwood and MC5.
The pool of fifteen nominees will be voted on by the nimrods who the (c)rock hall bill as rock experts and in December six to eight of the nominees will be announced for formal induction into the hall during a black tie ceremony next March or April in New York City.
