Artur U & the New City Limits - Holiday From Eternity
Instrumentally, these songs have an angular, math rock, post-punk feel to them. Artur U is a steel guitarist, in addition to being the act from Finland's vocalist, and has played with the likes of Bill Laswell and James Chance. So you can get a good idea where the group's sophisticated sound comes from.
Interestingly, when Artur U sings "Take a hand somebody" with an almost gospel music drive; it sounds a little like something Paul Weller might sing, as a matter of fact.
One downside to the way U sings is that he can sometimes be difficult to understand, as he doesn't always enunciate his words clearly. However, with "Wind," a male/female duet, it's easy to understand the words to this religious-centered song. It's a lovely, contemplative song.
With Holiday From Eternity, come for the Weller comparisons, but stay for the great playing and strong songs.
