Atkins May Project - Anthology

.
You have to be a bit of a metal scholar to know this but the original vocalist for Judas Priest was Al Atkins, who also gave the band he formed with K.K. Downing its name. A lack of interest in Judas Priest's early incarnation caused Atkins to move on and make room for Rob Halford, but he didn't give up on music altogether. Atkins' resume includes work as the front man of Holy Rage and several records with guitarist Paul May, and it is from the latter that the material found on this compilation is drawn. Rather than shrieking metal though, the Atkins May Project plays prog with heavy metal overtones featuring lots of melodic guitar from May and gruff vocals from Atkins, including the pain-drenched "Here Comes the Rain," the subdued and bluesy "Valley of Shadows" and a surprising cover of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." This nice way to catch up with the Atkins May Project also includes a bonus DVD.
