Winter Calling - FACES
Hodges sings with a scratchy vocal style, yet never sacrifices melody. FACES is a consistently great, hard rock album. For instance, one called "The Tower" has a foreboding, Gothic vibe running through it, complete with orchestrated elements. The group also knows how to change sonic gears, as "Follow Me Down" contains relatively quieter moments. The latter sounds like a really angry breakup song.
Much of what Hodges sings expresses anger. But that's all for the best because it requires him to really push his vocals. "Not Like You" features esteemed guitarist John Wesley. However, this group doesn't really need such stars to shine. They bring a whole heck of a lot of light - even during dark winter. Get it here.
