Hymn River Suite - Hundred Proof

.
Hymn River Suite is Justin Mathenia and Amy Snyder, who are brother and sister, and their music is informed by their upbringing along the Mississippi River in Illinois across the river from St. Louis, where the heartland butts up against the South. Southern rocker "Enough" kicks off the album with a Marshall Tucker Band meets the Eagles vibe, with the duo trading verses in praise of small town life. "Hundred Proof" opens to a military march but evolves into a sad, old style country tale about losing a loved one to alcohol. Much of the album is about loss or seeking something that's just out of reach, but Snyder is sassy and really in her element on the raucous and carefree "Hillbilly Queen" where she flashes her claws as she portrays a honky-tonk hellcat.
