Lost Bayou Ramblers - Kalenda

.
The accordion-driven Cajun romp "Sabine Turnaround" opens Kalenda and you may be too busy dancing to notice at first, but the song takes what the classic "Jole Blon" started and runs wild with it, amped up by its insistent rhythm and Louis Michot's earthy vocals, sung in Louisiana French. Lots of traditional Louisiana sounds here, but the Ramblers row their musical pirogue to some unexplored parts of the bayou too, waxing a little psychedelic on "Freetown Crawl/Fightin'ville Brawl" where the song's stomping rhythm may have something to do with their recent work with Jack White.
