Lynn Drury - Rise of the Fall

.
Drury is a veteran player who has released eight albums in total but mostly regionally; Rise of the Fall represents the singer and guitarist's first effort to be released nationally. Cuts like "Anniversary," a not really celebratory look at relationship milestones, recalls the work of Lucinda Williams. Drury works primarily in a plaintive mood throughout this set of mostly self-penned tunes but she gets pretty sassy shutting down a potential paramour in "Tuesday Lover," while also conjuring up some swampy New Orleans eeriness on "Freedom Tree" where the slide guitar playing of Chris Adkins gives the song its ominous edge. An impressive set, Rise of the Fall proves to be the perfect venue to place Drury on the national radar.
