Jared Weiss - Isolated Thunderstorms

.
Jared Weiss is a busy actor, as well as a singer/songwriter. He recently created the part of Bob Dylan in Larry Mollin's folk musical play, Search: Paul Clayton. One called "Darling, Reni," on the Isolated Thunderstorms, which was also produced by Mollin, sounds nearly exactly like an early Bob Dylan song. It's wordy and features little more than Weiss' voice, strummed acoustic guitar and harmonica coloring.

There's more to Weiss' music than mere Dylan approximation here, however. "Elusive Particle," for instance, bounces back and forth between quiet and loud rock & roll sounds. Weiss has a theatrical sounding voice, too, so it's not difficult imagining seeing him entertain a theater audience.

Harmonica accompaniment returns with "Annalu (From Monterrey)," which describes a woman Weiss respects, but can't fully comprehend. We all know people like her in our lives. Weiss had the intelligence, though, to put such a one in a song.

Jared Weiss fills his songs with passion and intelligence, which makes Isolated Thunderstorms an inviting weather forecast, indeed.
