During the outro to "The Cradle," the title track on Blake Red's new four-song EP, she repeats the line, "I'm coming back to life." It is both a statement of faith and purpose and exemplifies the overall message and purpose of Red's music. Red sings with a strong female voice, from the beginning to the end of this project.
Red continues her brave, bold messaging with "The Reincarnation." Over thumping, metallic rock & roll, Red declares, "This is my reincarnation." Whether she means this philosophically or religiously, Red makes her point emphatically. She is experiencing a rebirth (of some kind), and she's not ashamed to tell us about it. This one is followed by "The Darkness," where Red explains how she was able to discover truth in a most unlikely place - in the dark. "Now I see what you've done to me," she states with certainty. The single "Follow Me" differs significantly from what comes before it. This one has a sparse arrangement, with Red's voice way up front in the mix. Sonically, this one also sounds a bit like a Pat Benatar rocker, even though it also works in some mighty crunchy electric guitar.
Needless to say, Blake Red is one female hard rocker to be reckoned with.
