Late Spring Concerts Coming to Arizona

We're halfway through spring but concerts in Arizona keep popping up like proverbial May flowers! Here are some upcoming shows that have us really excited.

Chris Barron - May 23, 2024 - Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix

Spin Doctors singer Barron brings his "Pocket Full of Chris Tonight" tour to Arizona; the tour name is a clever nod to the name of the first Spin Doctors album Pocket Full of Kryptonite. And yes, this solo acoustic performance will find Barron telling stories and playing Spin Doctors hits including songs he wrote like "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong." Spin Doctors have a newly-recorded album to release later this year; fans can keep their fingers crossed that Barron might preview something from that effort too.

ionnalee - May 29, 2024 - Nile Theater, Mesa

The new album from ionnalee (Jonna Lee) is called Close Your Eyes and you can do that at her show if you want to; just make sure you leave your ears open! You may have heard the Swedish electronic-based musician before thanks to her well-received 2022 album as iamamiwhoami or collaborating with Moby, Imogen Heap and Zola Jesus. The singer may offer a rare treat during this show; Close Your Eyes is also released as Blund which presents the same material but sung in ionnalee's native language of Sweden so fans will probably have a bilingual good time!

Friko - May 29, 2024 - The Rebel Lounge, Phoenix

This Chicago band's debut album has a long title, Where we're going, Where we've been from here, and they're getting similarly lengthy praise from national media like Pitchfork, Alternative Press and New York Magazine. Here's a chance to check out these rising stars and hear cuts like their energetic pop rocker "Crimson to Chrome" in the intimate surrounds of The Rebel Lounge before they get too big for small venues. Mind's Eye and Practically People are also on the bill.

UPSAHL - May 31, 2024 - The Van Buren, Phoenix

Here's a chance to see hometown girl made good (really good!) as native Phoenician UPSAHL plays a concert in one of downtown Phoenix's favorite venues, The Van Buren. The place will hold about 1800 people but fans should plan on getting tickets soon as friends, family and those who went to school with Taylor Upsahl will want to see the pop/alternative/rocker perform. Since UPSAHL's days at the Arizona School for the Arts she has played sold out shows the world over, appeared at major festivals like Lollapalooza and co-written with Dua Lipa. Madison Beer is also on the bill of this not-to-miss event.

Camera Obscura - June 12, 2024 - Crescent Ballroom, Phoenix

Crescent Ballroom is a favorite downtown Phoenix venue and the perfect place to see this beloved Scottish band that hasn't played in the US for ten years. They'll be performing new music along with older material; they've just released a stellar album, also their first in ten years, Look to the East, Look to the West. These guys and gals have lots of fans in Arizona who have been waiting for this for a decade and the show is expected to sell out, so grab tickets soon (or maybe wait ten more years!)
