In 1982, the Beastie Boys were filmed by Philip Pucci playing a gig at the Preston Drama Dance Department Theater at Bard College. That night's opening act was a band called The Young and the Useless, featuring future Beastie, guitarist Adam Horovitz. A one-minute clip from the resulting short concert film, titled Beastie, was included on the Capitol Records home video Skills to Pay the Bills, which eventually sold more than 500,000 units and earned a gold sales award from the Recording Industry Association of America. This exposure helped the Beasties land opening slots for more established bands, including Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys and Reagan Youth, at happening venues around New York City, including CBGBs and Max's Kansas City. Later in '82, the Beasties went into the 171A studios to record their 7" EP titled Pollywog Stew, followed by Berry leaving the band and being replaced by Horovitz (Berry went on to form the bands Thwig, Big Fat Love and Bourbon Deluxe.) more on this story
Valentine's Day, the onset of Spring and the run-up to Christmas all being high times for pro-love song sales, while anti-love songs see a rise in the iTunes charts during peak break-up times and around the Autumn Solstice. Holli Mcmenamin, a psychology graduate from London, says "It's an interesting snapshot of the general population's mood, and the fact that there are such definite peaks and troughs suggest that it's not as random as you would expect, or at least not just the result of the 'powers that be' (Apple, marketing executives, etc.) pushing certain tracks. If that were the case, both lines would probably be fairly straight throughout the year. It's hard to say how big an influence heartbreak is or by what mechanisms it affects the charts, but we can see here that its presence is definite." more on this story

Producer Mickey Kravitz cast everyday people, drag queens, punk rockers, bikers, glam rockers, models, etc, as the song is about standing up for who you are no matter what you look like, what ethnicity you are, what turns you on, what you do, what you wear, etc! We are all unique individuals with a different story to share, yet we all live in this same place called earth, sharing the same experience called Life, and need to be treated equally! The cast of this video, really connected with the message of the song in a level that for some it was as inspiring as life changing. A gay guy came out of the closet on set and did a kissing scene with another male, for the first time in his life in public. "I am who I am, so let me be" is the message of the song, and the cast and crew really stepped up to the plate, to create a video much inspiring, creative, edgy, sexy, extreme, shocking, and exciting. Los Angeles punk veteran Texas Terri also appears in the video for a guest star cameo. The "Problem child" video is scheduled to be released the first week of April 2011. more on this story

No Help Coming is the fourth full-length release by Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs, and the latest of nearly 30 albums on which the veteran indie icon is featured. But she's quick to dismiss any suggestion that she's refined her approach during her 20 years as a recording artist. "I'm proud to say that I don't think there's been much development at all, really," Golightly asserts. "I still only know the same chords I did when I was 14, and I still write songs about the same things. But I did get a tuner three years ago, which was monumental." Indeed, as much as her work has evolved over the years, the London-born, Georgia-based singer/guitarist has maintained a fierce fidelity to the same raw DIY musical principles that first established her as a seminal influence upon multiple generations of garage combos and lo-fi artists. Her current outfit, Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs, is a stripped-down duo that teams her with Texas-bred multi-instrumentalist and longtime collaborator Lawyer Dave, who contributes guitar, drums and backing vocals. On No Help Coming, scheduled for release on April 26, 2011 on Transdreamer Records, Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs continue to make music that's spare and earthy yet unfailingly tuneful, drawing upon gritty blues, country and rockabilly influences while maintaining an unmistakable personal resonance. As Playboy.com commented, "Golightly's songs are so fresh and timeless they could have been recorded yesterday or 40 years ago." The new 12-song set, recorded in the twosome's adopted home state of Georgia, features such notable originals as "The Rest of Your Life," "You're Under Arrest," "Get Out My House" and the swaggering title track, all of which pack as much of a musical and emotional punch as anything they've recorded. No Help Coming also continues Golightly's longstanding tradition of putting her stamp on unexpected cover material, with personalized readings of country legend Bill Anderson's "The Lord Knows We're Drinking," the mysterious Mr. Undertaker's 1955 rhythm-and-blues cult classic "Here Lies My Love," and Wendell Austin's vintage psycho-country epic "L.S.D. Made a Wreck of Me." The last tune features an appropriately impassioned lead vocal by Lawyer Dave. more on this story
