A new law went into effect in California on October 1, which says, because of overcrowding, people convicted of non-violent felonies cannot be sent to State prison. Instead, non-violent felons serve their time in county jail. Law enforcement tells TMZ ... involuntary manslaughter is a non-violent felony, which means if Murray is convicted he'd go to L.A. County Jail. As for how much time Murray would serve ... L.A. County Sheriff's officials tell TMZ ... Murray would be jailed for half the actual sentence. So if he gets the max -- 4 years -- he would only serve 2. But there's a twist ... Murray could actually serve way less than 2 years. Because of severe overcrowding, inmates are eligible for house arrest, based on 2 factors -- their prior criminal history, and risk to the community. Murray has a clean record and, as one law enforcement official put it, he poses no risk ... it's not like he's going to go out with a bottle of Propofol and kill people. So if the jail is filled to the gills, the Sheriff could put him on house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet. But one official from the Sheriff's Department told us ... Murray wouldn't be placed on house arrest right out of the box. He would almost certainly do some time before the jailhouse doors would open. more on this story
Judge Stephanie Sautner made it clear to Lindsay during her sentence last May ... she MUST see the shrink every week, but she has not. We're told one of her excuses is that she's been working out of the country, but Judge Sautner made it extremely clear ... work is not an excuse for failing to comply with the terms of probation. And, Judge Sautner said, if Lindsay violates any court order, she's going to jail ... period. As we first reported, it's even worse, because Lindsay was kicked out of the Downtown Women's Center, where Judge Sautner ordered her to perform 360 hours of community service ... kicked out because she repeatedly failed to show up, and when she did she frequently did not stay the required 4 hours at a time. That's another violation of Judge Sautner's court order. And there's even more bad news for Lindsay. Judge Sautner is going to be extremely unhappy when she learns how much community service Lindsay has completed. Sources connected with the Probation Department tell us, as of September 30, Lindsay logged a grand total of 21 hours, leaving 339 hours which must be completed by May 11, 2012. Short story ... Lindsay could go to jail next week, when she appears before Judge Sautner for her progress report. more on this story

The rain was falling hard, the city streets were packed with umbrellas and midnight hounds in heat. I was late for practice, traffic was bad. DQ, my drummer shouted through the wire, "hurry up, the Limettes made a new dance routine, it's simply unbelievable!" 45 minutes later, I came crashing through the rehearsal space doors, soaking wet, umbrella black like tar, door slammed shut behind me and the music stopped. DQ spit onto his snare, and rattlesnakes the sticks into infinity. Kacie and Kate snapped into a shaking move as I shook the umbrella off to dry. I plugged the guitar in, and we get to our usual jam session before rehearsal. We dove into 50's classics like johnny b goode, wipeout, train kept a rollin and then it happened. The still wet umbrella slumped in the corner, lonely stared up at us, needing to shake. Kacie turned and yelled, "shake!" and Kate, "Shake!" and DQ, "Shake shake baby shake!". The absurdness of the situation caused a riot of laughter in the room. I continued to play wipeout strumming the opening note over and over faster and faster as DQ laid a 4/4 kick drum over top. Something happened that rainy Brooklyn night. A new song was brought to life, all from a little wet black umbrella. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!
