Whitney Houston's family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials ... the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol ... this according to family sources. We're told Coroner's officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney's lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned. Our sources say the family was told Whitney may well have died before her head became submerged. Sources tell us ... Whitney's aunt, Mary Jones, discovered Whitney's body in the bathtub. Mary had laid out Whitney's dress for the evening on the bed and the left for about a half hour. When Whitney didn't come out of the bathroom, Mary entered, pulled Whitney out of the tub and began administering CPR. And we're told ... Whitney's mom has arranged to have the singer's body flown back to Atlanta, as early as tomorrow. The family was told the Coroner has no problem releasing the body because there is no evidence of foul play -- and unless cops put a hold on the body, it can be flown back East. more on this story
Coldplay had been expected to make personal appearances and play some radio stations and TV shows. The band issued the following statement: "We sincerely apologize to our Australian fans for having to postpone next week's scheduled trip. "We miss you guys and we promise we'll make it up to you. In fact, stay tuned for a big announcement soon." more on this story
According to our sources, Carter will play the last two tour dates (tonight in Chicago and tomorrow in Columbus) in memory of his sister Leslie, who passed away on January 31. After that, we're told Nick will not schedule any more appearances ... and will take a couple of weeks to go off and deal with his sister's death. Our sources say Nick is still dealing with the fact that he missed her funeral. As TMZ previously reported, the Carter family believes Leslie overdosed on prescription drugs. more on this story

As TMZ first reported, James and Murray are both being housed in the Administrative Segregation of the L.A. County Men's Jail ... which is awkward since James was Michael Jackson's brother-in-law back when he was married to Janet Jackson in 1984. El -- who was leaving Tru nightclub in Hollywood Thursday night -- told us his brother is a very loving man ... but insists James was pissed at Murray over the circumstances regarding MJ's death. El tells us, "I don't really think they've had a chance to do a one-on-one talk and get an understanding ... I think once they finally do that, it'll be OK." Still, El warns Conrad that forgiveness won't come easy ... "My brother James, he ain't no joke. My momma didn't raise no punk." Look for El at the Grammys on Sunday because apparently he still makes music and was actually nominated. more on this story
Sources tell us the L.A. Department of Children and Family Services conducted numerous interviews with people familiar with the relationship between Gabriel, Halle Berry and Nahla. We're told DCFS now has numerous incidents that have raised concerns about Gabriel's ability to properly parent his child. We're told DCFS conducted an interview with Nahla, who talked about her father and described incidents involving him screaming at her -- and how it made her extremely frightened. Our sources say DCFS has information about Gabriel yanking the child out of the nanny's hand, allegedly pushing the nanny while holding the child, and putting the child in harm's way while Halle was shooting movie in Europe. As TMZ previously reported, the Dependency Court ordered that Gabriel can only have contact with his daughter in the presence of a monitor to ensure the safety of Nahla. But we're told that is just the beginning ... there will be numerous other hearings, as well as additional requirements that Gabriel must fulfill, which will include various forms of counseling. As we reported earlier, Gabriel agreed to anger management counseling ... but we're told the Dependency Court will order more than that. Just a note ... Dependency Court is different from the family court where Garbiel and Halle have been frequent visitors over the past year. Dependency Court is designed specifically to protect a child when there are signs of neglect or abuse. Being hauled into Dependency Court is far more serious than a family law skirmish. more on this story
Sources close to Ray J tell TMZ he went straight to the Beverly Hilton to try and see Houston as soon as he got the call that she had passed away. He had not been with Houston at all that day or the night before. We're told when he arrived, law enforcement turned him away just as they did Bobbi Kristina. Ray J can be seen in the photo, moments after here.
According to sources, Katy and Russell's marriage happened so fast, they never really had the opportunity to summon their lawyers and hash out a prenup ... nor did either really believe they needed one. We're told both felt comfortable one wouldn't screw the other in the event of a divorce -- they both knew where the other person stood on money, life, religion ... everything. TMZ broke the story ... Russell refused to accept $20 million of Katy's money he was entitled to as part of the divorce -- exactly half the money she made during the course of their marriage. Sources tell us, Russell was never a materialistic person and never spent much -- he never got into entertainment for the money. As one source put it, "Russell is a very simple person who doesn't need much to make him happy." The source adds, "He would never take money that [Katy] earned. That's not Russell. And if it was the other way around, Katy wouldn't have taken it either. They respect each other too much." Where is Hollywood and what have you done with it?!?! more on this story
Angelina and the guy who scored the winning TD against the Pats have been spotted out together recently -- we obtained a pic of the two getting all touchy feely at a club in New York a few weeks ago. Angelina was at Saddle Ranch in L.A. last week ... when we asked point blank if they were together ... and we were met with an uncomfortable silence ... followed by, "I'm not dating him ... like, no." Pivarnick explained, "We've hung out together ... we're really close, he's a cool dude." "I think he's a hot black ... I'm not gonna deny that. I would be lying if I told you he wasn't hot." We called Bradshaw's agent for comment ... so far, no response. more on this story
