Sam Smith Surprised He Was Up Against Radiohead For Spectre Theme

(Radio.com) Sam Smith just won a Golden Globe for his James Bond theme, "Writing's on the Wall." Backstage, a reporter asked if he was surprised to hear the Radiohead song in contention for Spectre's signature track. His answer was, at first, rather obtuse.

"Thom Yorke?" a confused Smith offered his collaborator Jimmy Napes, who provided a lifeline with the word Radiohead. "Yes, I was a little bit surprised," continued Smith. "Not going to lie, but I haven't listened to it personally because I did the Spectre theme song."

Around the holidays, Radiohead released their shot at a Bond theme, simply titled "Spectre." The band graciously explained that the partnership with studio decision-makers didn't go anywhere. Read more here.

Chris Young Fan Asked For Bra She Tossed On Stage Back

(Radio.com) Fans at a recent Chris Young show got a bit overly excited, prompting the crooner to tweet about a "record number" of bras thrown onstage that night. At his No. 1 party for "I'm Comin' Over" Monday night (Jan. 11), Young admitted that the story got even better.

"We had laundry on stage!" Chris told media outlets. "You know what was funny, at that show one girl asked for it back. We left them all up on stage and one girl comes and goes, 'Can I get that one?' And my stage hands are like, 'Are you sure? It's been onstage.' And she was like, 'It was really expensive.' [laughs] "

The 30-year-old was actually impressed by the girl's honestly. "I was like, you are equally brave for coming back to get it and go, 'no, no, I don't want to repurchase that,'" he said.

Speaking of ladies on tour, odds are he won't have the same conversation with his upcoming tourmate and duet partner Cassadee Pope. The pair's "Think of You" is Young's followup to "I'm Comin' Over."

"I had gone out of my way to grab her on the tour, we knew that was going to be the next single," he explained at the No. 1 party. "It's one of those things where I was so lucky to get someone with a voice like that on the track. It such a vocally powerful song. It's range-y. I don't know if you guys have ever heard her sing live and in person, it sounds like her record. It's incredible. She's doing a high c sharp on the record. It's nuts. I'm pumped. That's something we'll be able to give people when the single's fresh, when it's new, when they don't know it yet, as well as - hopefully - six months from now where it won't be a big deal."

Miike Snow Release 'Genghis Khan' Video, Announce Tour Dates

(Radio.com) Swedish/American indie pop trio Miike Snow released a new music video for their track "Genghis Khan" and also announced North American tour dates for this spring.

Opening with a scene straight of the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, "Genghis Khan" takes an updated approach to that infamous scene where Bond faces the unfortunate circumstance of having a laser aimed between his legs. The villain here is Genghis Khan, though, who has captured a spy and is about to do him in when the 5pm work bell rings, and he must return home.

The video plays upon the song's line, "I wanna make up my mind, but I don't know myself," as Khan holds a device offering him two options: 'Kill' or 'Release.' When he chooses the later and breaks into dance with the now-free spy, the video becomes all kinds of cheeky fun.

Miike Snow will also be heading out on tour for much of spring, beginning in March and going all the way through June, with stops at major festivals like Coachella, Hangout Fest and Governors Ball. Watch the video and see the tour dates here.

Jokingly, Rivers Cuomo, Weezer's frontman adds, "A dream come true for everyone involved," just before jumping into an acoustic performance of the crowd favorite. Watch it here.

Kevin Hart Proclaims He Saved Lady Gaga's Life at the Golden Globes

(Radio.com) Kevin Hart is hot on the promotional trail for the upcoming film Ride Along 2. We saw him plugging the film with Ken Jeong while presenting at the Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday (Jan. 10).

One thing we didn't see was Kevin Hart rescuing Lady Gaga from a fall backstage and thus becoming her hero. Hart recounted the tale to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show.

According to Hart, after he presented the award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Limited Series, or TV Movie to Gaga for her role on American Horror Story: Hotel, she tripped backstage and Hart caught her before she hit the ground.

It was a harrowing feat if you let the comedian tell it. He told DeGeneres, "Lady Gaga, she got an award. And what people don't know, after she got the award, she was walking off and she fell. I, like, had to catch her. And when I caught her I said, 'I just want you to realize how big my arms are. They're just ' it could have been bad. It could have been really bad for you, but I saved your life.'"

Hart continued to joke about the incident. "The thing is like she was on her way down. It could have been brutal, you know, we're talking blood, broken bones. "But the inner hero in me grabbed her and my instincts kicked in, and I immediately cleared the camera. 'MOVE!' And then I had her and she was gasping for air. It was a moment. It was, like, a thing, and I was like, 'I'm engaged.'"

Check out the interview here.

Singled Out: Heavygrinder's Setsuna

Los Angeles based Metal-EDM duo Heavygrinder, featuring DJ Heavygrinder (aka Bobbie) and Nek0, tell us about the title track to their brand new "Setsuna" EP. Here is the story:

"Setsuna" is the result of our combined love of Japanese music and animation. We have always been huge anime fans; we grew up on Dragon Ball, Magical Princess Minky Momo, Yu Yu Hakusho, Obocchama-Kun and Slam Dunk, just to name a few. Likewise, a lot of our favorite songs growing up were from either J-Rock or J-Pop artists, so it was only a matter of time until our upbringing seeped into our music.

The song started off as a simple concept that eventually, took over the EP and the project as a whole: what would an anime theme song sound like if we were to make it?

We began by laying down the chorus melody and arrangement, which was somewhat different from what made the final cut, but the essence is very similar. The idea was to have something that was exciting and somewhat hard hitting, but not too rough around the edges, hence the Hard-Rock vibe.

Bobbie started working on the lyrics in tandem and came up with most of it in that afternoon. The verses were the next section to be produced, and the breakdown was added when the song was pretty much done. She nailed the vocal melodies on the first try and it only took us about an hour to record all the takes we needed for the song.

The song was written, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by us in our studio. We use Studio One as our DAW, a pair of Sceptre S8 as our monitors and an AudioBox as our recording interface.

After we were done with the song, we felt like it needed visual support to really get our concept through to our fans, so we commissioned the artwork which features us as anime super heroes. This is something that we're going to develop henceforth with each new release - the visuals, as well as the music, will tell an ongoing story.

We couldn't be happier with the response we've gotten so far. People really seem to be enjoying the whole EP and are eager to hear and see what's coming up next. To all of our amazing fans who have been supporting us through the years, a big heart-felt thank you!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the group and the EP right here!
