Metallica and Guns N' Roses Tour?
antiMusic reports: While there are quotes from members of Metallica in articles floating around music sites today where they seem enthusiastic about doing a coheadlining tour with Guns N' Roses, the quotes are not sourced, which is typical of unreliable UK tabloids. There is a good reason they didn't provide the source of the quotes because they were taken out of context and misquoted; which again, is typical of the UK tabloid press. The actual quotes came from a press conference on Fuse about Metallica being inducted into the Crock and Lull Hall of Lame (a.k.a. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame).

Here is an example of how the UK music tabs are spinning the story: "drummer Lars Ulrich admits he would jump at the chance to tour alongside Axl Rose's legendary group. He says, 'We're road dogs. We love to tour. So we'd never say no. We've learned never to say no to anything, and all four of us love Chinese Democracy.'"

The actual exchange went like this (full video below): A reporter asks "on the topic of drama and near tragedy, would you guys ever consider touring with Guns N' Roses again now that they're back out?"

(Laughter from Metallica) Lars is seen shaking his head and mouthing the word "no" but then becomes diplomatic and says, "Like James was saying earlier, we're rode dogs we love to tour, so if that opportunity ever came in the right situation of course."

James adds, "We've learned never to say never, cause you don't know what hurtle, or what great thing is gonna be handed to you." - more including the video of the press conference

Los Angeles station Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over the air today, according to on-air announcements, but will continue to broadcast via the web. There is a silver lining: the overly neglected Spanish radio market in L.A. can add one more station to its massive numbers. (The first part of that sentence was sarcasm). The corporate parent to boycott is Entravision. At least So Cal rock fans still have KLOS (if they changed their format you might see another riot). more on the shutdown from Billboard

Metallica want to avoid drama at the Crock Hall induction ceremony. During their press conference frontman James Hetfield addressed the topic of their former bassist Jason Newsted being invited to the ceremony. "There's been an invite put out, no doubt," Hetfield said. "We want everyone to celebrate everyone who's been a part of it. Jason has been a big part of that. We don't want to see the drama of, unfortunately, Blondie or [Sex] Pistols or Van Halen. It's ridiculous. This is Metallica's moment along with others but let's celebrate. Let's forget the crap." more about the press conference at FMQB. So from that we can assume that Dave Mustaine be there?

Phish In A Box
PR reports: Last fall, when members of Phish announced the band would take the stage again for the first time in four years, tickets for the three-night stand at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia sold out immediately. This month, the band announced additional dates, marking a return to the road for one of the most successful touring bands of all time.

Rhino starts the celebration a few days before Phish's highly anticipated shows with a 7-DVD collection documenting The Clifford Ball, a landmark concert event that drew more than 70,000 fans to upstate New York in August 1996. It was the largest concert event of 1996 in North America and set the tone for festivals including Bonnaroo and Coachella.

Ray Waddell summed it up in Billboard: "Bonnaroo is a direct descendant of Phish's one-band festival extravaganzas like Clifford BallBonnaroo launched withand maintainsthe same self-contained, immersive experience as the Phish events, as well as its laissez-faire treatment of fans and spirit of community." The Clifford Ball will be available from Rhino Records March 3 for a suggested list price of $99.99. - more on this story

Depeche Mode Set Release
PR reports: Depeche Mode are proud to announce the release of their long-anticipated new studio album, Sounds Of The Universe on April 21, 2009 (Mute/Capitol).

Eclectic and energized, the band's new release is their most dazzling and diverse album in decades. Recorded in Santa Barbara and New York, Depeche Mode returned to using a lot of vintage gear, from analogue synthesizers to drum machines, in order to conjure up the retro-futuristic arrangements featured on the album. Lyrically the release contains many of the group's enduring obsessions plus more overt black humor than any of their previous collections. a

Like with their 2005 studio album, Playing The Angel, Sounds Of The Universe features writing credits for both Martin Gore, the group's primary songwriter, and Dave Gahan who after honing his talents on two solo albums, has earned his place as Depeche Mode's second writer.

Grandmaster Flash Plots Return
PR reports: On March 3rd, 2009, legendary hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash releases 'The Bridge' on Adrenaline City Entertainment via Strut, his first high profile studio album since his final recordings for Elektra back in 1987. "As a DJ, I've been blessed to see many different people, places and styles. The album title represents all the bridges I've crossed worldwide," explains Flash. "The bridges of time, cultures and colour, the bridges of hip hop, funk, pop, rock, jazz, punk, disco and R&B."

Recorded at Flash's own Adrenaline Lab studio in New York during 2007-2008, the over-riding theme of the album is the global language of hip hop. "Wherever I travel as a DJ, I see the incredible power of this artform," Flash explains. "I am constantly amazed by it. That's the line that runs through the album we speak many languages and come from many cultures but, wherever I go in the world, there is one universal culture of hip hop."

Lamb of God Sell Tour Name To Energy Drink Company
PR reports: Nothing says metal like product placement! The good news is Lamb of God have lined up a pretty impressive tour. The bad news is they sold out the name to an energy drink company. Here is the announcement with the product placement removed: Fresh off of their west coast run with Metallica and upcoming visits to Finland, UK, Ireland, Australia, Japan, and Indonesia, Lamb of God now plan a North American Corporate Energy Drink Sponsored tour in support of their fifth studio album "Wrath" which will be released by Epic Records February 24th.

Lamb of God has put together one of the strongest bills to come out of the metal community in recent times. As I Lay Dying and Children of Bodom are the main support acts on the tour, with the opening slot rotating between God Forbid and Municipal Waste.

Lamb of God drummer, Chris Adler, commented "I cannot wait to begin the first North American run of the 'Wrath' world tour. The package we have lined up is guaranteed to leave sore necks and broken eardrums across the country. If you are into metal, there is something here for everyone, this is not a tour to miss. We are working up one hell of a show and can't wait to play the new material. See you there! " - more on this story

Butch Walker and His Gang of Merry Musical Melodymakers
PR reports: Butch Walker has announced his new headlining tour, in support of his recently released and critically acclaimed Sycamore Meadows album. The tour will kick-off on 3/5 in Toronto and take him to 20 cities across the U.S.

From Butch with love... Spring '09 is seeming quite fine: Here we go kids! I'm so excited to be hitting the road again! The weather is gonna be slowly creeping towards beautiful, the sounds out of the speakers will be fun and flowery, and the band will be looking sharp. This is gonna be a good one! I know, I know...The economy sucks. The American dollar sucks...Well, we will have to change that. The tickets will be affordable (not like I'm worth any less y'all), the new merch will as well, and I promise that I'm picking up the tab for the drinks (maybe).

So don't be afraid to spend your weekly paycheck on a gala night of beautiful music and wonderful support acts. The support this time around is gonna be sweet. Not telling who all yet. Gonna have to have a few surprises left in life, right? Left? Right? Aren't I "witty"... - more from Butch plus the dates

Decemberists Warn of The Hazards Of Love in March
PR reports: On March 24th, Capitol Records will release The Decemberists' The Hazards Of Love, the follow-up to the group's 2006 breakthrough, The Crane Wife, which NPR listeners voted their favorite album of the year. With their fifth full-length album, the Portland-based quintet of Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen solidifies its standing as one of the most innovative creative forces in music today. In an age when singles rule and the death of the album has been pronounced by many, The Decemberists who will be featured in a live session on NPR's "World Caf" today have fashioned an anomaly: a record that demands to be listened to from start to finish and reveals more with each subsequent play. The 17-song suite, recorded with the band's longtime producer, Tucker Martine, is rooted in ancient language and imagery, yet entirely modern and accessible.

Eager to share a bit of the new music with fans before street date, The Decemberists are making "The Rake's Song" available as a free download beginning today at www.decemberists.com.

Another God Dethroned Lineup Change
antiMusic reports: God Dethroned issued a statement about the current state of the band or actually who is in the band these days:

"You guys already knew that Roel [Sanders] is back in the band after 8 years of absence. Again we have a new band member in the ranks of God Dethroned. Already somewhere in 2008 it became clear that Isaac [Delahaye] and the band would follow their own seperate paths again. Everything for our own private reasons, so we said goodbye as friends.

"Then we decided to record the new album as a 3 piece and look for a new guitar player later. A few weeks ago we auditioned Susan Gerl (Murder Syndicate) and she proved to be the right person for the band. Professional attitude and a 100% metalhead, exactly what we were looking for. You can see her live in action at our first show of the year in Den Bosch (Holland) on March 21. - more on this story
