Hear Steven Tyler's New Song |
It's the debut solo release for Tyler, who has been working as a judge on American Idol, which also is hosted by Seacrest. In another tie-in, the music video for "(It) Feels So Good" will be broadcast for the first time on the Thursday, May 12 edition of Idol. The clip is directed by the Norwegian-born Ray Kay, who has previously helmed videos for Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber.
"I've always been a fan of Aerosmith," Kay told VG Nett, "[so] I [was] really looking forward to working with [Steven]." Of course, Tyler's solo single doesn't mark the end of Aerosmith. The band have already begun work on their new studio album (their first of original material since 2001's Just Push Play) and plan on recording it this summer.

Megadeth's Mustaine and Anthrax Spitz Supergrouping |
The Red Lamb album will be mixed by Johnny K, who is also producing the next Megadeth album after producer Andy Sneap had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with his own band, Hell.
Mustaine had already been involved in Deuxmonkey has far back as last year. In November 2010, he told this writer (in an unpublished segment of an interview for Mixdown magazine): "I've been working with Danny Spitz on his project and I was trying to sing a melody to him over the phone and I grabbed a guitar to play it, because with the increments of the frets it's a lot easier than when you're singing, when you're helping someone zero in on a melody over the phone."

Young said he refuses to sanction allowing individual tracks to be downloaded because their songs should be heard as part of a full album.

Zakk Wylde Wants Live DVD With Slash and Jerry Cantrell |
The guitarist is revelling in the acclaim generated by The Song Remains Not the Same, a semi-official BLS release containing acoustic-based versions of his own tracks and some of his favourite cover versions.
And if he can find the time, he'd love to make a DVD based on the album. "I'm so happy with it I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror It's cool. If you want something mellow, a break from the slammin' stuff, this is a great record to vibe out to. Sit back and drift away," Wylde tells Music Radar. "I've got some touring to do and we'll be out for a while, and after that we'll get back to doing another Black Label record. But I might do an 'un-blackened' DVD next something with strings and a bunch of friends like Father Cantrell, Slash, all my buddies.

Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Hopes Smashed |
And he says tensions have escalated between the parties in recent years as they have waged a series of legal rows although he does say he bears no grudges with ex-drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
"No (reunion). That's just one of those things that are never going to happen. If you don't see somebody for a while, there's the old thing, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder.' Well, we haven't had absence," Corgan tells Rolling Stone. "The things that have happened between us in the interim haven't been good. There have been lawsuits and lots of stupid stuff. It's only made it worse. If it was bad before, it's really bad now. Jimmy and I aren't enemies he's just off doing what he wants to do, as he should. There's not super bad blood between me and Jimmy that we'd never get on stage again.

Singled Out: Other Lives' Tamer Animals |
This song was written in five minutes on a piano in my front room. Originally, I didn't care for the song and thought it was a throw away, but my band mates convinced me otherwise.
The name of the song and the chorus came from my good friend Adam Wright's book of poems called Tamer Animals, and I fell in love with the title.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and stream the full album

"Tom Sawyer": "We don't like to think about the album sequence until we're done recording everything, but I think 'Tom' was always going to be the opener. Just the way it starts it had to open the record."
"Red Barchetta": "I remember that we really loved this song, and so the writing of it was very quick. It was born from a jam, which is how a lot of the stuff on Moving Pictures came about. We'd go into the studio in the morning, jam on an idea, and then huddle around a little cassette player to see if we had something."

Beatles' Penny Lane Trumpet Player Dies |
The story goes that Paul McCartney was seeking to add some extra instrumentation to "Penny Lane" and he saw Mason play Bach's "Brandenburg" Concerto No. 2 in F Major on television. The next day, producer George Martin brought in Mason to record with the band. "I did not even know who The Beatles were when I was asked to do a recording session with them," Mason told England's Bath Chronicle in 2003. "For me it was just another job."
Mason brought nine trumpets to the session and eventually picked the B-flat piccolo trumpet to deliver the distinct solo. McCartney sang the solo aloud, Martin wrote out the notes and Mason performed his task, according to The Beatles Recording Sessions. He was paid about $45 for his contribution.

Bob Dylan Justice |
U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik recalled hearing Dylan sing about injustice over the radio airwaves when he was growing up in New York City. "Suddenly there was someone speaking a certain kind of truth to you," he said. "You'd say, 'Wow! That's something I'm not used to hearing on the radio, something that moved me.'"
University of Texas law professor Alex Long agreed that the influence of Dylan is prevalent on Baby Boomer-era judges. "Everyone wants to believe that the music they listen to says something about who they are," he opined. "Being a judge is a pretty cloistered existence, having to crank out these opinions in isolation. Dylan was popular at the time they were coming of age and trying to figure out who they were. The chance to throw in a line from your favorite artist is tempting, a chance to let your freak flag fly."
