Day in Rock Part 2

Nightwish Share The Secret To Success In Music

(Prog) Nightwish have offered advice to young bands trying to get a foothold in the music industry. The group have been instrumental in promoting symphonic metal since they formed in Finland in 1996 - with their most recent album Endless Forms Most Beautiful being favorable received across the world.

And when asked what help he'd offer bands starting out their careers, keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen says having the "fire" and the "passion" to make music is paramount.

He tells The Cut: "Do music for the right reasons. You really need to have the passion and the fire inside of you to either write songs or play - but that needs to be there.

"After that, find a big bunch of trustworthy people who take care of the side of the business that you don't want to dive into. Don't try and control everything."

Singer Floor Jansen reflects: "I would like to have told myself to be patient and to realize what aspects of what I do are my best and to focus on that - and to acknowledge the things I'm not so good at and to let that be done by someone who is." Watch the full video here.

VLY Premiere 'Silver Beaches' Video

(Prog) VLY have premiered their video for Silver Beaches exclusively with Prog. The track is taken from the band's debut album I / (Time), released last year via Laser's Edge.

The group is led by former Crippled Black Phoenix members Karl Demata and Chris Heilmann alongside singer Keith Gladysz of Diet Kong and Typical Reptiles, keyboardist Elisa Montaldo of Il Tempio Delle Clessidre and drummer Mattias Olsson, formerly of Anglagard.

The promo was shot across various locations in the south of England and was directed by Felix Brassier, who also collaborated with the band on their last video for album opener Circles.

Silver Beaches is described as highlighting "the more acoustic, lyrical, and introspective elements of the band's sound with lush string arrangements and vocal harmonies." Watch the video here.

The King Is Blind Tribute Terror Victim With Eagles Of Death Metal Cover

(TeamRock Radio) The King Is Blind have recorded their own version of I Love You All The Time by Eagles Of Death Metal. They recorded the song in tribute to their friend Nick Alexander, who was killed during the terror attacks on The Bataclan in Paris last year.

"Colchester is a small town, with a close-knit music scene," says The King Is Blind guitarist Lee Appleton. "Nick Alexander was someone we knew from the pubs and gigs in our home town for many years and we felt tremendous shock and sadness when we heard about his death, along with so many others in the Paris attacks in November 2015."

Following the attacks, Eagles Of Death Metal announced the Play It Forward campaign, for which artists would record a cover of I Love You All The Time with all publishing royalties and proceeds going to The Sweet Stuff Foundation to aid those affected.

"Tom Donovan is a producer and owns Tom Donovan Studios in Essex where The King Is Blind recorded their demos, The Deficiencies Of Man EP and full-length debut Our Father," says Lee. "Tom took the concept that EODM had presented, and took it to the extreme by offering free studio time to bands wishing to record their version of the song. Jumping head-first into the project to record as many covers of the EODM track as humanly possible, he asked if TKIB were interested in getting involved. I've known Tom for nearly 20 years so I know what he's like when he's fired up about an idea, so I said yes on behalf of the band before I'd even heard the EODM song.

"As soon as I got off the phone to Tom, I looked up the original EODM track online and the fear kicked in - the song was a jaunty little ditty without a hint of metal, let alone TKIB's 'monolithic' metal. It became pretty clear that instead of doing a straightforward cover of the song, we would need to tear up the original and use only the blueprint from the music tablature to design a track, guided by our feelings surrounding Nick and Paris, akin to something that Type O Negative would do when approaching their various re-interpretations. With the path now clear, we began to focus on delivering a much more sombre, emotional tone to the track." Read more and check out the song here.

Turnstile Release Tripped-Out Animated 'Addicted' Video

(TeamRock Radio) Turnstile have released a bizarre, tripped-out animated music video for their track "Addicted". The song comes from the band's debut album Nonstop Feeling.

The video was animated by artist Elliot Bech. Speaking to The Fader, the band say Elliot "brought the video to life with frantic back-and-forth animation that's at one moment childish and fun, and the next, dark and perverse."

"The song is about over-dependence and discontent. It's about the battle for the super drug," they continued. Nonstop Feeling is out now and available to download. Watch the new video here.

The David Cross Band Announce New Album Sign Of The Crow

(TeamRock Radio) The David Cross Band will release sixth album Sign Of The Crow in August, they've confirmed. Former King Crimson violinist Cross last year described the work as "fantastic" but "horribly complicated," adding: "It's all down to Paul Clark on guitar, who comes up with very twisted ideas."

Now he says: "As with the previous studio album, Closer Than Skin, King Crimson lyricist Richard Palmer James has created high-impact lyrics, both dark and beautiful. The titles evoke big events and big feelings - Starfall, Sign Of The Crow, The Pool, Spiderboy - this is a great album."

Cross and King Crimson leader Robert Fripp last collaborated on 2015 album Starless Starlight, based on reinterpretations of Crimson's 1974 track Starless. Read more here.
