Wins Boxing Show Fight

(antiTainment) Fox won the latest round in
their fight with NBC over the reality boxing series “The Next Great Champ”.
Producers for an NBC show asked a California court to block Fox’s plans
to launch the series next week. They believe that the show is a copy of
a program that they plan to launch this fall called “The Contender” and
that Fox rushed their version onto the airwaves. On Friday, California
judge denied NBC’s request and the show will go on.
It is not known at press time whether “The
Contender” producers DreamWorks and reality king Mark Burnett will appeal
the decision.
Both shows feature boxing hopefuls that
compete to win a cash grand prize and a high profile boxing match. NBC’s
“The Contender” is hosted by Sylvester Stallone and Fox’s “The Next Great
Champ” is hosted by Oscar De La Hoya.
Fox came under fire earlier this summer
when they launched another reality program “Trading Spouses”, which ABC
says is a copy of their program “Wife Swap”. The competing networks protest
what they feel are preemptive launches of programs that are direct copies
of their programs. “Wife Swap” is set to debut this fall on ABC.
