Both Rings and Mountain earned nominations for best film, director, adapted screenplay, costume design, editing, cinematography, production design, sound, and hair and makeup. “Cold Mountain” lined up best actor nod for Jude Law and best supporting actress nod for Renee Zellweger.  “Mountain” was also nominated in the Best British Film category. 

Both Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson are competing against themselves for roles in different films. Penn was nominated in the best actor category for “21 Grams" and “Mystic River”. Johansson was nominated in the best actress category for her roles in "Girl With A Pearl Earring" and "Lost In Translation". 

The BAFTA awards are the British equivalent to the American Oscar awards, but they typically take place in February, where the Oscars are in March. The BAFTA awards this year will take place on Feb. 15 at the Odeon Leicester Square in London.
