The North American box office is going to
the dogs—an animated dog by the name of Scooby-Doo. In a three week span
we saw the top of the box office dominated by Jesus, Zombies and now a
computer generated canine.
"Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed," walked
away with the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $30.7 million
for the first two days in theatres ($24 million less than the original
film). Last week’s number one film, a remake of “Dawn of the Dead” dropped
down to No. 4 earning an estimated $10.4 million.
The controversial “The Passion of the Christ”
dropped one spot to No. 3 this weekend, with earnings of $12.5 million
($315 million to date).
The new Tom Hanks film, “The Ladykillers”,
landed at No. 2. The Coen Brothers remake earned an estimated $13 million
on Friday and Sat.
Ben Affleck’s new comedy, “Jersey Girl,”
debuted with ticket sales of $8.3 million, rounding out the box office
Top 5.
