(Day in Rock) Say what you may about Clay Aiken fans but they are passionate about their favorite karaoke contest runner-up. Fans that got the Ozzfest joke are a bit upset with us for posting a clarification for those clueless ones that thought it was legit and yes some did (a dozen or so emailed us to find out where we heard this and one of the zillion Clay fan boards had a serious discussion on why this made sense because Clay is trying to do new things). But in respect to those Claymates with a sense of humor, yes we do realize that only a few thought that posting was serious but it was funny enough for us to post about and clarify for the clueless ones. In that same spirit, here are portions of some of the many hatemail responses we received from Claymates: "Of course this joke of yours was reported on Aiken's message boards, just like any article that mentiones him would be. And if you actually read what was said there, instead of relying on third-hand reports, you would see that no one took it seriously. Even though Ozzfest could use a performer who sings in tune instead of screaming or mumbling the songs like most of their acts do. And it would have sold a lot more tickets, too." Another Claymate wrote "those dirtbags only wish they could have a real star at ozzFest." Our favorite was this ironic hatemail "those metal fags would be lucky to have Clay play there stupid concert". Now who wouldn't buy a ticket to see the crowd reaction to a Clay Aiken set at Ozzfest! Hell that would be Pay-Per-View material. Sharon don't disappoint us, set it up! Of course, this would only work at the first show. As for the Claymates, keep the hate coming! We're having a blast.
Rant or Rave? Your turn, post your comments and thoughts on this news item. But hey keep it clean, we wouldn't want to have to wash your mouth out with Old Spice.

Well, don't know who sent you the hate mail regarding Ozzfest and Clay Aiken. I never thought it was for real and in fact thought this was FINALLY something funny you put out there. Now really, I truly can't picture Ozzy and Clay together or the other heavy metal bands. LOL. Now that is funny and I am a Clay fan here.
Hey, there is a place for all kinds of music and Ozzfest is great for some good bands to be heard. I have nothing bad to say about that event. Sorry, just can bash you for talking about Ozzfest. Some love it and some just are not into that kind of music. Each to there own I say.

What do I think? I think there are lots of Clay fans out there who think the bitchy, overwrought, over the top, Claymates are idiots. And some of us are actually male.
Clay sings good and it's fun watching him negotiate the music biz.
Why do so many people give a crap who likes what singers or bands?
No comprende.
That's what I think.

oh we do just fine without Clay. But it is good to see some levelheaded fans posting. All hope is not lost.
Posted by I like Clay and many other singers, too:
As long as you put the name 'Clay Aiken' in your articles, you'll keep getting lots of hits. It's a trick even you have discovered!

I'm a Clay fan, and I'm SICK of Clay fans! Lighten up people. You give the 99% of us that don't ever comment on these websites a bad name.

Here is one Clay fan who never read anything about the Ozzfest comment, and I know nothing to speak of about Ozzfest except that I doubt I'd ever want to go to one -- I'd be very out of place there.
I will say this, though, the fans who get overly upset about things and let that turn into hate-filled comments frustrate me to no end. Believe me, there are a lot of Clay fans who never write comments, nice or hateful. And I daresay that more Clay fans than not are not happy with those who are rude and instead would be very nice and thoughtful in what they write. I know that speaking for myself, when something upsets me, I try to sound as logical, sensible, and nice as I possibly can. Doesn't mean I like what may have been said about/done to Clay, but I'd rather make a sensible, calm comment than come across rude and mean-spirited.
For whatever that's worth, that is what I'd like to say concerning this.

Well let me tell most of us thought it was funny. So please don't think the few nutty hatemail sending "Claymates" represent the whole fandom. AS for that hatemail I just read, I just shake my head, how embarrassing for the rest of us and Clay, believe me he is embarrassed when they act like freaks. Rockon Ozzfest, I'll be there.
