"My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute, where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern," Stanley wrote on his site. The American Heart Assoc lists a normal "at rest" heart beat as between 60 and 80 beats per minute.
The full band was scheduled to perform at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, Ca but during rehearsals Stanley suffered the heart trouble causing the band to perform without him, as doctors advised Paul that going on the show would be dangerous.
Gene Simmons carried on telling fans in attendance that the group would play as a trio, and then used the show as a tribute for the ailing Stanley, according to reports.
According to BW&BK, "The band - bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons, guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer - performed the following setlist: 'Deuce', 'Cold Gin', 'Calling Dr. Love', 'Christine Sixteen', 'Nothin' To Lose' (Eric on vocals), 'I Love it Loud', 'Goin' Blind', 'Watchin' You', 'She', 'Parasite', 'God Of Thunder', 'Let Me Go, Rock 'n Roll', 'Black Diamond' (Eric on vocals), 'Rock and Roll All Night'."
