According to the press release: The Dalhart Animal Wellness Group & Sanctuary (DAWGS) was started in March 2003 by four young ladies in the fourth grade who were upset about dogs being brutally euthanized in Dalhart, Texas. When DAWGS was created, the city of Dalhart, TX was euthanizing over 600 dogs a year- that's over 4 times the national average for dogs and cats combined. With very limited resources, DAWGS, primarily ran by children ages 9 to 12, began picking up dogs and cats from the city facility, having them checked by the local vets, vaccinated, and spaying or neutering them prior to adoption. Even while facing tremendous adversity, DAWGS has successfully rescued over 4,000 dogs to date through their no-kill sanctuary. For more information visit: http://dawgsntexas.com
