Mass Animation's "Live Music" project marks the first collaborative, worldwide effort to produce a computer-generated animated short film for theatrical release. The collaboration, through a unique application built on the Facebook Platform, will run through Jan. 30. With six weeks to go, 70% of the shots in "Live Music" already have animation submitted. This new global animation community has already in the aggregate created nearly one-third of a feature length animated film.
Of the nearly 25,000 Facebook fans of "Live Music," 13,450 fans are active users of the Mass Animation application, which includes a Work in Progress group and 112 discussion boards, many of which focus on creative questions and directions from other animators, jurists, technical partners at REEL FX and the Mass Animation team. Animators who are chosen as finalists for the final "Live Music" film will receive on-screen credit and $500 in U.S. compensation. Facebook users can now visit the Mass Animation application to view and vote on their favorite entries.
