(PR) The Richard Rodgers school, namesake of Richard Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein, has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the performing rights. Rodgers actually attended the school from 1912-1916, and rumor has it that it was the only school he ever graduated from. Unfortunately, the school, also known as PS166, found itself on the short-end of arts-oriented educational funding. Fortunately for them, Chris Barron, known around the world as the lead singer for the Spin Doctors, is also a PS166 parent. Having heard of his school's efforts to maintain one of the best music programs in the city, Barron and PS166 staff organized the PS166 ROCKS benefit, to take place February 7 at the school.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the PS 166 music program in an effort to raise money to purchase guitars for the students. The guitars, which are a great teaching tool for the basis of musical knowledge and understanding of rhythm and harmony, are also the type of instrument that students can make immediate progress with, further encouraging them to in their musical learning. Tickets for the event are reserved seating only, and can be purchased online at http://ps166.org/benefit/. The benefit is an all ages event and promises to be a rare and exciting evening, featuring one of New York City's best known musical exports, Chris Barron.

Chris Barron, who still plays occasionally with the Spin Doctors, has been full steam ahead with his own solo career in the past few months. Recently, he released a brand new record entitled "Pancho and the Kid," and is currently touring with his new band, the Time Bandits.
