Novi Is Here
(Musebox) Novi has released her debut album, Now I'm Here, following a "Blackbirds" video premiere on Pop Matters and a feature on the AOL Music homepage.
Earlier this summer, Novi first made waves when "Blackbirds," the LP's first single, premiered on Arjan Writes and piqued the interest of music fans across the country and galaxy.
Novi, born Carolyne Neuman, arrives on the scene with an eclectic taste that captivates listeners immediately. Her distinct sound is smooth and full of catchy hooks with looping skills Imogen Heap would envy, and playful, tantalizing lyrics ("I had barflies sipping on my motherf#*king drink") that will leave NOVI "peddling back" through your mind all day long.
The LP kicks off with a slow, psychedelic beat, and as the song builds, so does the thrill of listening to Novi for the first time. Now I'm Here demands attention with tracks that rise in tempo and then seamlessly drop back down, like an EKG of your heart as you listen. "Blackbirds," the LP's first single, features a rich array of sounds, biting lyrics, and a hook so memorable it's practically guaranteed to stick in your mind for days. "Same Old Song," the third song on the LP, manages to capture all that is Novi. The steady beat of drums and piano gives way to Novi singing, "I'm tired of the same old song, tearin' me up at the end of the day," and drops out to make way for a firey, hard-hitting rap solo, performed by Novi herself. Now I'm Here highlights Novi's many talents and shines a bright light on her future.
