Lou Reed's Cause of Death Revealed

However, the New York Times reports that the doctor that performed the transplant, Dr. Charles Miller, did reveal that Reed was back in Ohio last week for further treatment and that the rockstar died from liver disease. (Classic Rock) Lou Reed died as a result of complications from the liver transplant he had earlier this year, it has been confirmed. The Velvet Underground icon passed away yesterday aged 71.

He had undergone surgery in April after years of drug abuse caused irreparable damage to his system. He revealed the news in June and told fans: "I am a triumph of modern medicine, physics and chemistry. I am bigger and stronger than ever."

Meanwhile, his old friend David Bowie and Velvet Underground bandmate John Cale are among those to have paid tribute to the influential musician and his career. Among the comments are: David Bowie said "He was a master" and Cale said "The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet� I've lost my school-yard buddy." Read more rockstar tributes here.
