Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Lands Film Role

(Gibson) Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong is set to star in a film opposite Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester. As reported by Deadline.com , the Green Day frontman will portray the boyfriend of Meester's character in Like Sunday, Like Rain, an indie drama written and directed by Frank Whaley.

Meester plays a struggling musician who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy. Also starring in the movie is Will and Grace actress Debra Messing, who appears as the child's mother.

Armstrong has previously appeared as himself in several films�including Riding in Cars with Boys and This Is 40�but Like Sunday, Like Rain marks his first major acting role. Filming is currently underway in New York City. more on this story
