Jessie Ware Releases 'Tough Love' Video

(Radio.com) Given only a cursory look, one might miss an overall hidden concept in Jessie Ware's new video for "Tough Love." On the surface, it appears to be your normal fare for the artist - a series of beautiful images featuring her in fields and nature, seen through a gauzy haze.

But look closer and you'll see something more. The directors, Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman of BRTHR Films, have placed Ware into positions that loosely recreate several artistic masterpieces.

Ware's sprawl upon the grass, with hair floating around her, is a recreation in a different setting of Waterhouse's "Versions of Ophelia." There's a shot framed so we only see the back of her head as she stares off into the sun over a grassy field. It is also, in the first time we see it with the blue sky/white clouds background and her dark trench coat, a different visual take on Magritte's "Son of Man."

The constant blurring and fuzziness is a nod to the style of work done by Gerhard Richter, who pioneered photorealistic painting. Watch the video here.
