N.W.A. Score Their First Top 40 Hit With 'Straight Outta Compton'
. N.W.A.'s breakthrough song "Straight Outta Compton" debuts at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Sept. 5. According to Billboard, old songs are allowed to enter the chart if they crack the top 50 and show notable gains in sales, steaming and/or radio airplay. "Compton" was released back in 1988 and never charted until 2015. The success of the namesake film, which has raked in over 113 million dollars in just 10 days, is the impetus for the song cracking the top 40.
